No one can help you. You must fight the Gazebo alone

In his defense, if the DM described a creature that big only a couple rounds of movement away from you, you'd be concerned too.

And then a divine messenger for the God of Carpentry bills you for repairs plus ignorance.

Ah, Eric and the dreaded Gazebo. that storry will never die...
Tho I still think Knights of the Dinner Table had the best punchline for it:
"That remind me of the time they lynched the Green Davenport"

Was gonna assume he thought it was a mimic but nope

Nice to see another that doesn't trust the DM as far as they can throw them...until all avenues are exhausted, that is.

Ignorance thankfully has a very simple solution. Asking questions is always a free action.

My 1st thought is that he probably mistook it for a gazelle.

When the sensible reaction is the twist...
(the original story, dude didn't realize he didn't know what it was and instead pulled his sword to attack if I recall XD)

Me neither buddy. I had to google it. to be fair Gazebo sounds like what a monster in D&D would be named

Oh yeah. Gazebo. I'm sad that he did not do the ending from the post.

Lol this was from a 23-25 year old Turkish D&D game.
Since the players didn't know what a Gazebo is, they kept attacking it, until they learned what it is, and this part of the game was published in a very well known gaming magazine :)

There is another such famous story:
The party's fighter triggers a trap and Turns to Stone. So the team's mage casts Shrink on the stoned Fighter for them to carry him with ease to a Temple, or until they find a Stone to Flesh spell scroll.
And sometime after they come across a beast that can only be damaged by magical weapons. But the problem is the team's only magical weapon was on fighter, and he is a shrinked 1 feet high statue right now, holding the magical sword. And the Fighter's name is Osman.

So the Paladin takes the statue from his backpack, and attacks with the shrinked and stoned version of his friend Osman, a statue weapon named "Osman +1" thereafter. :)

And then it eats them. After he tries to burn it...

I really thought that Gazebo is something like a a "thingy" or a fancy way to say "that thing that I dont have a name for".
And it turns out it is just a small pavilion 🤦‍♂️I would have never guessed that

To be fair, the player’s excessive caution would be entirely justified in a campaign run by a DM who always uses mimics…

The Critical Role shirt is on point because... The Chair. The cousin of The Gazebo.

Nice work, DM. Now the Terrasque that was hiding underground with that gazebo on its back can now get a surprise round on the party

Gazebos can be intimidating. It's not a bad idea to be cautious. Lone chairs, on the other hand? That's where the deadly shıt starts...
