I would say the M1 Garand was actually more important than the AK47 because Mikhail Kalashnikov himself said it was the inspiration to the AK47.

BMG in .50 BMG stands for browning machine gun, and it was invented for the M2. (CORRECTION) it was made for a single shot antitank gun in ww1, but the us army ended up buying a British one. The round was adopted into an antiaircraft gun, and at the time would have been .50 browning. Thank you Dr anarchy for correcting me.
