The Korobov actually looks kinda neat, like it has some sort of round pulling based chambering instead of needing the bolt behind the mag.

The Korobov was one of the most innovative design of its era or even for today's standard, in terms of mechanical functions. In terms of aesthetics, it looks the way does is because German Korobov wanted to make a compact bullpup design.

The tiniest amount of historical research would tell you exactly what the designer were going for.
Back in the day pocket pistols were designed to also be good brass-knuckles/ a sap. So when you shot your one shot, you had a back up weapon. And since you'd only get one shot, but might have to hit the guy several time, the ergonomics of the weapon tended to emphasize that melee weapon aspect of the design.
