Why LOOKING Poor Is Important

Looking Poor Is Important. In fact, looking poor is more important than you know. Don't be offended by the title of this video. The whole premise is that most wealthy people do not look rich. Looking poor is more important than trying to "look rich". The average millionaire usually looks much poorer than we typically assume a rich person should look.

Many of us should probably stop trying to focus on looking rich, look poorer, and start trying to focus on building real wealth. In this video I'm explaining that rich people, more than often, look poor and poor people, more than often, are trying to "look" rich...

While living in an apartment complex, I noticed many residents driving new cars. Rather than spending $500 a month on transportation, I opted for older vehicles and saved that money to buy a house. Now, as an active-duty service member with years of investing experience, I have a stagnant $160, 000 portfolio and am looking for financial advice to enhance it and maximize returns.

The most important part is people leave you alone. Not just robbers. Sales people. Charities. Gold diggers. Lawyers. Con artists. Etc etc.

It is safer to look poor. Never flaunt anything. Don’t be a target. You will also not overpay when negotiating.

poor people = spend, middle class = save, rich people = invest

If u saw my oldest son, you would think he is so poor. Drives a 15 year old car, average house. He is a physician with 7 figure savings. He is so humble and kind!!

My parents were exactly this. Every car over 100k miles. Normal clothes. School teachers. Vacation was a camper in the mountains or beach at public camp.I WANTED them to travel, spend more for comforts for themselves (didn't even have central air in socal)

They left me with 1.2 m

I have a 2010 Honda fit with 120k miles on it. Runs like a top.

"The Millionaire Next Door" is a great book.

I grew up on welfare, food stamps, government cheese and powdered milk. Today I have a net worth of several million. Viewing money as a tool was an essential skill I developed early on, and most of the cars I've owned in my life ended up in a salvage yard when I was finished with them. I was mid-40's before I ever bought a brand new car...but I paid cash for it.

I learned this in college while bartending. The truly wealthy people came to the bar low key not flashing their money and valued intelligent conversations. After awhile I could notice them by things like watches and shoes. The flashy people had the fancy clothes and screamed look at me - they were also the cheapest tippers. I'm glad I learned this lesson early in life.

The most important reason to look POOR to your friends and family when you actually have money, is that it prevents them from asking to "borrow" money from you all the time.

I’d rather look poor but financially secure. Than to look wealthy but wallet is empty.
If people around me will look down and mock me, it is more of a reflection of them and not on me.

Somebody told me that we were rich, so, I asked my dad. He said, "No, we're not rich. Rich people's money works for them. We work for our money." That has always stuck with me.

I definitely don't look rich, but I retired at 53, for me that's what money represents...freedom. I drive a 24 year old car, wear generic clothes and rent a modest duplex but I'll never have to work for someone else again, my day is all mine, every day. I was really, really bad with money until my late 30's, then got my act together, sold off as much stuff as I could and paid off all of my debt, so even though I got a late start I still retired early, there is hope.

My grandfather was apparently a very wealthy man and no one knew it. I mean he had a bunch of rentals, a gas station and a water well drilling business so I assumed he had some money but I was shocked to find out exactly how much when he passed. He had buckets of gold coins that were so heavy we had to empty them out almost completely and still use a dolly to move them. He drove a 20yo truck but it had a brand new motor and transmission and even wore the exact same kind of shirt/pants every day. It wasn't the same shirt/pants but the same brand, color, etc. He wasn't a greedy man either but had some seemingly strange habits. One example was the only time I ever asked him for a loan. He said "no, I won't loan it to you but I'll give it you" and told me "never loan money or rent to family".

My uncle lives in a trailer house in the woods and doesn’t have a mortgage, he has paid off vehicles: He has never worried about people’s opinions on his lifestyle and always has taught me this lesson.
