The old newspapers had recepies, comics, crosswords, quizzes, etc. Pretty much it had entertainment for the entire family. Newer generations never knew what was lost.

Well, my mother was fired on the spot when she married my father. That was normal in those days, married women weren't allowed to work in The Netherlands. We come a long way, since then.

we could not have credit cards or bank accounts in our own name . We could not have surgeries that remove a cancer infested uterus without a husband permission. no. I know there are men who want those days back. no. it's cruelty.

As a man I think it’s sad that society can equate women wanting respect and equally to women and freedom to be who and what they choose outside of family and relationships as the same as women not wanting to be treated as women. Maybe society has yet to define what it really means to be a woman and I think that’s something that’s happening as we speak. Society is learning what everything else is that isn’t in a default (white male) ideology of what is what.

Just because there was a section dedicated to homemakers does not mean women were limited to reading that particular section of the newspaper. My grandfather was the one who made most of the meals for the family as my grandmother was a nurse who worked graveyards.

Today my wife and I have full time job, different shifts so we don't take our kids to a super expensive day care, she always complains about having to go to work and wishing she could stay at home cooking taking care of the house, and the kids.
