Twitch vs. YouTube: Why I'm Streaming on Twitch

Whether you should stream on YouTube or on Twitch is a big question for streamers. I've streamed on both platforms and there are aspects of both that I love. However, when it came down to the YouTube vs Twitch battle, I ultimately decided to stream on Twitch. This video explains why.

For anyone struggling with the first point in this vid, you can change the settings to "stream to custom server" and manually imput the stream key and you wont have the issue with streamlabs creating a new stream.

Diversification is the key, 100%. Keep Twitch for live shows and interactions, and YT for offline content.

I just started making content. I've streamed on both platforms and I genuinely can't decide where to stream. Videos on YT and posting to social media is a must. However, streaming on YouTube vs Twitch is so hard for me. I feel like I like the community on Twitch is better. Plus, I feel subscribers and donations are more common on Twitch as well. You can't go into content expecting money, especially early on, but it is definitely a factor. As a viewer, does anybody have an opinion on your preferred viewing platform?

This is such a great video! I'm thinking about making the other jump from Twitch to YouTube but I'm understandably cautious!

I love YouTube, and spend hours watching live and subbed stuff there everyday. Whenever I've tried to find worthwhile content on Twitch, it's been nothing but boring gamers swearing and laughing at themselves playing boring games. I don't get it.

YouTube is the worlds second search engine and is a discoverable platform. Hence why placing a thumbnail, easy searchable title, description, and tags matter. That way you have more potential to get in front of the right eyes. Where as with Twitch you get thrown to the bottom of the pile where almost no one will find you unless you start getting lucky or use outside sources such as tiktok to help your stream grow. Which even that can be difficult. Where as with YouTube you just have to stream and make sure you have the correct SEO. Facebook is sort of the same they filter their streamers high to low and suggested. Where with YouTube it's not filtered by how many viewers you have, but rather the SEO you have, and watch time on a stream.

This is interesting... because I'm leaving twitch to stream on youtube for literally most of reason you actually listed. Stream quality I actually think is better on youtube, didn't like how gimmicky the chat was, most of viewers on twitch are also streamers themselves (I used to be partnered on mixer), mixer had the same problem and we learned that a platform where a large portion of the people on it are streamers just aren't sustainable because you need just a dedicated viewer only base.. but I also learned that all this really depends on the person. Also, understand before going to twitch that twitch viewers have EXTREME twitch loyalty... what I mean by that is pretty much twitch viewers that find you on twitch, if you ever decide to go anywhere else in the future, most twitch viewers will not follow. Also with all the stuff going behind the scenes at twitch... just be careful :) good luck

This was very helpful. I have a fitness channel, but I really want to branch out into video game streaming.

Just wanted to say hey and thank you for the video! New to your channel! I recently started streaming on Twitch 2 months ago and I’ve never felt closer to my audience and had so much fun making content. Now I’m clipping my Twitch VODs and using those clips for future videos on YouTube. I was wondering if I should even consider starting YouTube lives, but then stumbled upon your video and it helped me decide not to. 😄 I wish you all the best for your channel, dropping a sub. Hope to catch you live on Twitch! 🙏🏼🙌🏼

I just multistream that way people can watch in their preferred spot and make YouTube content at the same time. Loads of vids explaining how twitch owns you once you hit affiliate and reduces your chances of growing. Also the channel points thing turns into spam and becomes irrelevant after a while. Ask the viewers not the streamer because streamers always hype platforms and pitch you a sale. Majority of the viewers don't care about the point system.

I agree with diversifying, that’s why I made a Twitch channel too. The cultures between them are so different.

What do you think about YouTube for Content, but Facebook and Twitch for Livestreams?

Also I hear Live-streaming kills a YouTube Channel.

I see this more on the technical side of the UI with twitch and if i had to choose its youtube over twitch. theres too many flaws twitch in itself and if you dont see it, then idk what to say. But good luck being discovered
