Does Getting Tenure Make You Lazier As A Professor?

Does getting tenure as a professor make you lazy? The answer is generally no you don’t become lazier because of that hurdle. It’s a bit of an artificial hurdle that you would’ve gotten tenure regardless.

What ends up happening is that you likely change the task that you perform as you view, the world slightly differently, and you make different judgment calls and what you want to do going forward.

That being said, very few people that I have ever met have actually gotten lazier once they got tenure.
