These are all over Europe, in train stations and airports. Even in virtual scam free countries like Iceland

I was a frequent traveler in my professional past, on all continents except South America. When using an ATM, always select one linked to a bank (or even better, inside a bank booth). And NEVER let the ATM do the currency conversion for you, always withdraw cash in the local currency and let your bank do the conversion afterwards, you'll save a lot money. And, at least here in Europe, do not use your Visa card for cash withdrawals if you can, their commission is outrageous; it's much more advantageous to use a debit card such as Maestro.

I've experienced this in Mexico City too. But it took me awhile before I caught on to it, because nobody had warned me about it. And this was using ATMs at big banks too, not sketchy independent ones on the street. Once I realized what was happening with this conversion scam, I saved soooo much money on my withdrawals.

PayPal does worse things than these if you use multiple currencies or cards.

I remember using an ATM in the US in 2004 when I was there. The maximum withdrawal was $100 and they'd slice you $2.50 US$ transaction fee just to use it . Currency change was probably additional.

One thing to remember though.. ATM's are a business. It costs money to install them, kickback for site, filling fees, etc. But yeah, 19% is a ripoff.

Just a question: why in the world you used thst sketchy ATM when within a 2 minutes walk you can use the ATM of a legitimate bank that apply better exchange and transaction fees ?

These Euro net ATMs are now in the Philippines mainly in the tourist locations. If you use a foreign card they will charge you a basic 12usd fee. I did not look at the larger withdrawals. I see them popping up on about every block in the tourist locations so you know they make a fortune scamming people

2:08 so after declining conversion, on next step you need to accept the one with 3.95 fee in order to get money? And the "cancel" underneath cancels the complete transaction ?
Or that "cancel" also bypasses the 3.95 fee option above ?

Are the fees than the same as other atms if you decline their conversion service?

Hey if you are trying to communicate you should know not to munch thru the words, speak slowly, and lower the background music. Very annoying to o listen to your video and trying to digest the info. Do it again
