I’m a victim of kick back through my own stupidity. The block of wood struck me in the chest and put my heart into a dysrhythmia causing me to pass out. I came to, my head cradled in my wife’s arms with two paramedics standing over me. Being of good health there was no permanent damage. The doc at the ER said I was lucky that the wood didn’t fly back a bit higher possibly blinding me. That was 17 years ago. My wife nailed the block of wood to the wall in my work shop/garage in clear view as a reminder.

If you're cutting a bunch of little pieces with a spcer block, be wary of having all of the little pieces floating around near the blade like that. Andrew Klien posted a video describing a kickback he had where one of those parts found their way to the back edge of the blade and got thrown at him.

I think most woodworkers do know this. Its just not part of what gets said when someone posts a video using a fence with miter gauge the wrong way, people just start raging YOURE DOING IT WRONG AND UNSAFE! Good info tho, always appreciated 👍

Purty good for a short. You illustrated a valid point. I just like my Steve in full size, not 'snack size'!

The most commonest table saw misconception amongst less home-improvy people seems to be that they don't know about the importance of guidance and especially the rip fence. _At all._ I've recently seen an ad featuring a picture of some neckbearded hipster _kneeling_ in front of his cheapo table saw while shoving a large sheet of plywood across it. Freehanding. That doesn't really work, of course, but especially not with such large, bendy workpieces. Many poorly informed buyers do simply not know about rip capacity.

Even with the block, I wouldn't do it. Make a crosscut sled. It's worth it in the long run and I learned to make mine from Steve anyways. Self-promote, Steve. Think of the analytics.
