I find supporting my workpiece with sacrificial cuts of wood helps with cutting accuracy too.

I just let material fall if it wants to fall. I keep my fingies above the saw.

Done this so many times not even thinking. Learn something new every day, thank you...

The only time I ever came close to getting hurt with a saw was by doing exactly what he said. I was holding the cut piece and when I tried to catch it my hand ended up close enough to the blade to nick my work glove. Great advise.

My shop teacher from 25+ years ago reached under. He was a carpenter building houses. Caught his winter glove and spun his middle finger off. No cut.. just torque. Great teacher.

Thank you! A great reminder. I never touch the wood but instinct is to hold it. Those hotdogs just made a core memory for me!!

Great Saturday morning PSA. Sadly hotdogs were harmed in the making of this video.

I use a big piece of rigid foam insulation. Works everytime

So nice of YouTube to not let those links be active in the description.

Most battery saws, I have the same makita. Don't have the power to really kick back.

This guy is a great carpenter, very knowledgeable. Good to see a short.

Even better lay a sheet of plywood on the horses to act as a table, then you just lay 2x4s underneath the plywood you're cutting parallel to the cut. Nothing gets sacrificed and your plywood is fully supported.

I just did this today. No kick back or incidences but I’m glad I ran into this

Even if the saw doesn't kick back, it can bind and make the two sides of the cut scissor past each other. That happened to me, squeezed the inside of my finger out like stuffing.

Even if it's much cheaper to buy a circular saw every diy guy should invest in a track saw! Clean straight guided cuts, allows you to break down big sheets of ply much easier than on a tablesaw, clean cross cuts off small pieces with simple diy jigs just like a mitre saw, jointing boards like a jointer, etc. And you are instantly ready to start even big high quality projects. Sell them or take the time to save up money and build up your tool collection. Circular saws in my opinion are for job sites because of portability
