Idk how but this needs to be the very first safety video any new woodworker watches. I pretty much ignored all of those sounds when I first started and got some pretty good scares as well as ruined workpieces. Well done!!!

Absolutely good advice delivered clearly, concisely, and coherently.

Point 2.1: if the piece that you are cutting a groove into with the table saw starts lifting up and the blade is slowing down, it may be because the blade is hogging (filling the groove with sawdust). Don't push the piece down onto the blade, or kickback is practically guaranteed.

Don't ask me how I know.

With the router, another indication big pieces are being ripped off is when the Hickory shards embedded themselves in your fingers.

I recently had an issue with my table saw where the wood was getting some serious resistance when pushing through. I stopped immediately and noticed that there was an issue with the table top where something had caused a small burr to appear, causing the issue. I used a file (aluminum top so this was easy) to ground the burr away, added some paste wax and it was fine.

As someone who used to repair tools professionally, seeing this makes me happy

Being aware of what a failing bearing sounds like is a huge bonus to not blowing up your tools also

Ahhhh! *That’s* why I see so many woodworkers take multiple cuts when cross-cutting on the miter saw. 💡

This is a very helpful video. That crackling sound also applies to the jointer, and more specifically the planer. I listen for it on the first pass and try to reverse the piece the next time around.

Also, just curious, now that you are free of Powermatic, do you have any unvarnished takes on their tools? It would be helpful to get your feelings on all that you own and have used extensively. I'm not implying that you held anything back when you were sponsored (but totally understandable if you did), I just think it could be a very nice topic for a new video...going through each tool and stating what you liked, didn't like, and if you are considering replacing it with another brand, which one, and why. I find these types of reviews - from someone who has used the tool extensively - to be the most helpful in making a decision on a big tool with a big financial outlay.

Absolutely right. I've had all of these things happen. Binding on the table saw and miter saw are pretty scary when they happen.

I always wondered about the shallow first cut on mitre saws. Figured it was for clean cut on surface. Thanks

I think you are the first woodworker I have ever heard on YouTube give the warning signs of a power tool about to fail. You’ll hear maintenance tips and what not to do all day, but this is a first to hear this at least for me. THANKYOU!

... And if you are watching TWW channel you can trust every word you hear. Thank Marc :)

I paused a table saw cut recently and I didn’t know if I was doing it the right way. Thanks for showing you doing it, I did it just like you! I’m thankful I have my life man. No rip cut of any piece of wood is worth our lives y’all!
