Foot drop or drop foot is when your foot fails to lift when you walk. It makes walking very difficult and more hazardous as lifting the foot up is an important part of our walking pattern that we call the gait cycle and this foot up motion is called dorsiflexion.
Foot drop occurs when the common fibular nerve innovating the tibialis anterior muscle is damaged. This can occur at any point from the spine to the muscle compartment in the front of the leg. Conditions of the nervous system such as MS or PVD can also cause this condition. If you don’t know what is causing your foot drop make sure you get a medical assessment.
This device will quickly restore your walking pattern by holding the foot up and prevent catching of the toes. I’m going to show you how to fit it in just a moment.
If my patients present with drop foot I check to see if they can lift their foot without weight and if not whether they have any muscle activation which I can feel under my fingers Wherever possible exercises and muscle stimulation (Blades and Massage Tool) form part of the treatment plan.

I found nice exercises for dorsiflexion. I use a broom and, with hand resistance, pull the broom down while I try to dorsiflex. I find it much more comfortable compared to a resistance band. What do you think about it?
