In this episode of The Simpsons Theory, I look at the complete history of The Simpsons Comics. Created by Matt Groening and Bill Morrison, Bongo Comics published The Simpsons Comics, Bart Simpson Comic, as well as the Treehouse of Horror Comics for several decades.
In this video I go through the beginning of The Simpsons and how it led onto the comics.

I always liked the way the comics would include nods to really obscure bits of lore, for that added "I get that reference!" nerd value.

This really puts a smile on my face, seeing the comics being talked about like this. I loved them as a kid and would read every issue I could get my hands on, but kind of got the impression they were forgotten by most people. Glad to know they're remembered after all.

My 6th grade teacher was a huge Simpsons fan and had a bunch of Simpsons comics in the back of our classroom. After finishing our work he would let us read them during the rest of our class time and that is where I first experienced the comics. Ever since that grade I slowly started to become more and more of a fan of the show. Great video as always, Simpsons Theory! 😉

The Simpsons comics are a precious childhood memory of mine. I didn't miss an issue since 2001 to about 2009. I especially looked forward to the Treehouse of Horror each year. The comics were _amazing._ Their writing and humor was always on-point, even when the show itself starting dropping in quality. Sadly, I don't have them anymore, but I'll remember those classics always!

Crazy how a company can make a T.V show, comic books, commercials, and sell merchandise at the same time and become one of the biggest things in the world

I’m surprised on how this channel doesn’t have over 1m subs because it’s so high quality

I’m SO happy to see this! I’ve had a mini collection of comics for many years and I’m glad I get to see the history of my favorite part of this franchise!

AWESOME video Lydia! Absolutely LOVED Simpsons Comics growing up. I think I collected up to around issue 150 (plus all the spin-offs), but stopped reading them for one reason or another. Kinda wish I’d continued on with them. I’m one of those who fondly remember certain comic stories and confuse them for actual episodes.
Thanks for this video — answered a LOT of questions I had over the years!

I found the Simpsons #1 in the basement going through my comic collection. What a gem! I recently asked the local comic shop about Simpsons comics, and they said they had been out of print for a while. Bongo comics! I'd love to get a collection as these are going to be gems one day. I'm surprised #1 is worth what it is.

I think that it is defiantly worth going further into the Treehouse of Horror Comic in another video. Especially since a big Omnibus is coming out in August so you have a big release to point people towards. I think its such a fascinating book and the amount of talent that was brought on to writer stories.

Growing up in Hong Kong, we never had The Simpsons on TV. I bought those dvd box sets and, like you, bought a couple of these comics. I read them for years. They're still in my parent's home. I'd completey forgotten about these.

We appreciate you Lydia! you cite your sources wonderfully in any video I've seen, and as a person born in 98 and not allowed to watch The Simpsons as a kid, having those episodes/comic names is really helpful for learning the lore and history of our favorite town/ people/ family lol.

I was mesmerized when I found my first Simpson Comics at a newspaper stand in Mexico City, back when I was around 13 years old. I was a big fan of the show, but not really into comics until then. And they were so good! So well adapted. Even the spanish translation was on point. I still have a bunch of them both in english and spanish, somewhere at my parents' place. Great memories! Good video!

Used to buy the comics all the time until the bookstore in the mall closed down. Sweet Nostalgia. Great video as always!

Thank you so much for this video, it brought back so many memories. It was actually thanks to "The Simpsons/Futurama Crossover Crisis II" that I first discovered Futurama and fell in love with that show.
Also, rather amusingly, at 8:43, _whilst_ Bill is talking about people mistaking comic stories for TV episodes, you show that panel of Comic Book Guy complaining about the surgically attached Vulcan ears that are all floppy - a joke that I've spent several years thinking was in the actual TV show.

I love the Simpsons comics and still sad they're no longer here... Aside from my original collection of #1-125, 150, etc. I recommend the Simpsons Vault & Treasures books to enjoy more stories never before animated!

The Simpsons comics really are a delightful hidden gems. There’s so many interesting little Easter eggs and special love letters to fans. I remember the page with an X-ray of Marges’ hair and everything stuck in it
