The Complete History of China | A Beginning To Now Production

The land of China was once shrouded in mystery to the rest of the ancient world.

The Silk Road was a connection between the two realms that suggested China to be of immense wealth and power.

However, expeditions from distant empires would fail to uncover the true scale of this hidden empire.

Whilst these civilizations would see dramatic falls, China would continue to rise through countless dynasties and emperors for thousands of years, forming the global superpower we know today.

From constructing the longest structure in the world, to hosting the largest and deadliest wars in mankind’s history, China is the longest continuous civilization on earth, dating back 5000 years - withstanding the ancient era, the middles ages, and now, the modern period.

But can they continue on?

To understand this fascinating land, we must start from the beginning.

Might not be perfect but for people like me who know absolutely nothing about china prior to this, I think it’s a very informative start to understanding Chinese history .
Well done

Thanks so much for the documentary about a 5, 000-year-old China in just 3 hours. A quick correction: the number victims in the Massacre of Nanjing in 1937 by Japanese invaders should be 300, 000, rather than 200, 000. RIP to those children, moms, fathers, and soldiers...

For all friends who are interested in China, I hope you keep in mind the following objective factors, which will help you better understand why China has such a history:
1. China is located at the easternmost part of the Eurasian continent, and its latitude is just the most suitable for human survival and agricultural production. It has huge plains and mountains, and a very humid climate, so it is suitable for agricultural production. You can look at Chinese landscape paintings, which are often surrounded by rain and fog, with mountains and rivers. This is our living environment.
2. China is relatively closed geographically, far away from other ancient civilizations. To the north of China is the world's coldest Siberia. To the east of China is the world's largest ocean. To the west of China is the world's highest plateau. To the south of China is a huge and hot tropical mountain range. So China avoids conflicts with other ancient civilizations. Even the Indian civilization next to it, China has never fought with it for thousands of years. And other ancient civilizations in the world: Egypt, Greece, Mesopotamia, Persia, India have had various wars and destroyed each other for thousands of years, and only the ancient Chinese civilization has been preserved.
3. The four major flows of human society: population flow, logistics flow, information flow, and financial flow. China began to build and unify these four flows more than 2, 000 years ago.
4. China has two major river basins: the Yangtze River Basin and the Yellow River Basin. For ancient countries, river water transportation is equivalent to the current railway system. The river basin is the area that a country can effectively rule. The Yangtze River Basin and the Yellow River Basin are intertwined and linked to each other, covering most of China, so they provide logistics and population flow conditions for China to unify into a huge country.
5. Since the Qin Dynasty, China has unified writing and currency, that is, standardized information flow and financial flow. It has greatly accelerated China's internal unification.
6. Because China objectively has very good conditions for unification, all dynasties in China have pursued unification (because the rulers know that unification can avoid war). After successful unification, a strong imperial system and emperor are needed, so Chinese culture has a very solid unified thought and collectivism.
7. Supplement: You can compare the Roman Empire. Why is its map along the Mediterranean? Because the Mediterranean is essentially a large lake, which is equivalent to a highway, realizing convenient logistics and population flow, and the universality of gold realizes the standardization of financial flow.

A 5000 year old history explained in a nutshell. May not be perfect but certainly a well deserved attempt.

It is a Western version and viewpoint, which misses the importance of Chinese culture,  especially the imperial Western invasion in the 1800s.

For Chinese people, this video has many errors, but for people who know nothing about China, it can give a general understanding of some major events in Chinese history.

I really admire the civilization of China, especially the science department, its inventions and its power in wars, and also a mutual feeling with the modern state of China. In our current world, they still impress us with their creativity. All love to China and its people from southern Iraq, the site of the greatest civilizations in the Middle East and the world 🤗🇨🇳🇮🇶🤍.

I have watched a five or six series of documentary about China made by British historian Michael Wood a few years. It focuses on Chinese history and its civilization. It was very enlightened. He also wrote a book about China. Very informative and beautifully written.

Hi. This is a very good video, I enjoyed it very much. I have but one minor complaint: You missed an important figure in the Teng period: the one and only Wu Zetian the female emperor. I know you condense the entire history of China in a less than 3 hours video and it's a great effort, but it only take maybe 10 seconds to mension her, for she was an important figure in Chinese history.
Good job however.
