Do NOT hit the mitts like This!

Don't hit the mitts like Floyd Mayweather's flashy pad work. If you're a boxer wanting to train like Floyd, this style of mitt work can lead to bad habits and poor boxing techniques. While it may offer some benefits, like improving your timing and reaction, I would only recommend it if you're doing mitt work for weight loss or fitness purposes.

I’ve said this before. It worked for Floyd, but I don’t think this type of pad work is good for 99% of boxers because it’s not realistic punches. It seems more like reflex work than actually working on your punches. Not saying it’s useless i just don’t think this is the best way for most people to do pad work.

Floyd's mitt work is incorrect, Tony is right. The reason Floyd won fights is skills, definitely great condition

When I commented that I loved how Floyd gets the mitt holder to do all the work, I was accused of not knowing what I'm talking about!
Love it when a professional sees it how I see it! 👍👍

I was under the impression Floyd just did it to warm up his arms

Tony jeffries vs Floyd mayweather? 2 retired pros. I think it makes sense, petition for it

What works for Floyd won't always work for others. Don't copy anyone else, develop your own style. I'm sure all those movements had benefits like timing, reaction and speed but don't have practical applications in the ring. Right tools for the job at that time.

The Heavy bag and shadow boxing is more important.

But

RIP Roger Mayweather. Mitt work was never the same when he passed away.

Mitts are good for improving the pop in your punch. Nonetheless, the heavy bag and the double ended bag is much better training. Sparring is of course the best, by far.

The roger Mayweather mitt work is a good drill for reaction time and counterpunching but Floyd did lots of other training working on the basics mainly shadowboxing and bag work.

The student doesn't tell the master his juju is bad until the student has done what the master has done. The only thing you need to ask about a boxer is what are his results. Mayweather trains the way he trains because that works for him. It's not down to others to copy it or to judge it. Just judge the results.

Finally, someone with credentials has made a statement about this. I always thought that Floyd's mitt work was sh1t.

What works for Floyd won’t work for everyone else. Diamonds are formed under pressure but bread dough rises when you let it rest. Their are different ways to the top of the mountain.

I always assumed these drills were for endurance and reactions. No live dog is going to sit in front of you and allow you to throw 5% punches at speed. You'll get lit up!!!

I love this video! Your spot on. Lotsa people see this kind of mitt work and think its the be all end all and the boxers doing it are the best fighters...till they mimic and spend too much time on it do some proper sparring against good competition and struggle. I am also not a floyd mayweather fan and also cant believe anything comes out of his mouth especially when self proclaiming himself the greatest boxer of all time...i can think of a few boxers in history straight off the top of my head i believe he would have had a hard time winning against. Not saying he would have lost or won (we will never know...but he knows apparently) but they would have been a hard matchup for him i recon

One thing i hate with mit work is they never purposly make the fighter miss the mits. I do this all thr time as every punch wont land and it trains recovey. Most people get hit because of a bad recovery because they dont have a place they plan stop thier punch and begin the recovery if they miss. They just throw the attack and dont even have a plan for what part the punch should enf if it doesn hit. Let alone being able to recognize mid attack that your attack will fail. If your attaxk is going to fail turn it into a fient and go some where else. Another issue i have is people always holding the mit in the same spot. Like every time they hold for a jab its in the same spot. Move the hand around have them jab at all kinds of angles and distances. Force them to compensate for a distance change mid jab even.

I think guys like Floyd, Tank, Haney, and Bud are just all trolling us. If you want to be a serious boxer, don't do what the top guys do.

The reason he does it like that is bc he has fragile knuckles he’s broke his hands so many times there very fragile that’s why he’s a defensive fighter

That continuous style mittwork was really a Roger Mayweather thing. Even Jeff and Floyd Sr don't really use it to the same degree. Later other trainers tried to emulate it. I always thought of it as a kind of fitness drill and not the only type of mittwork that should be done. People want to emulate their favourite fighters though, for example people want to do Peek-a-boo style boxing even though it doesn't suit most fighters.
