What has interested me so far is how AMD and Intel have focused on different things in building out their microprocessors. Intel has focused on CPU performance and AMD on graphics. The result is that an AMD APU powered machine with no GPU will outperform this build for the same price or slightly less. But CPU intensive tasks will do much better on Intel.

In our next video we'll pop in a new low cost GTX 1050 Ti to see how a GPU will impact our performance for the better.

Note on the GTA V test - a vsync setting may have degraded performance more than it should have. The true number should be around 20-30 fps but still not very playable at 800x600

For gaming, optimally you'll want an i5 with dedicated GPU but if gaming is secondary, what you have there can fit into a tiny case with a pico PSU and will be a powerful NAS and/or HTPC. Nice demo, Lon.

For some reason, CS:Go defaulted to 8x MSAA (full-scene anti-aliasing) during your test, which will tax the GPU unnecessarily. If you disable this, you should see a noticeable improvement in performance without having to lower the resolution.

Quick comment: the i3 6100 did better at the Octane test than the i5 6400 due to the i3 having much better single core performance (higher clock speed), and JavaScript being basically single-threaded.

I believe there is a problem on the GTA V test, because i remember playing on the iGPU of an i3 4170 (hd 4400) and with minimum settings @720p it did run around 30fps

Great video Lon but if you are going to use Windows then I think you need to include the price of it in your parts list. Other than some shady online deals most people are looking at about $100 to use it.
