Business Management Mistakes That Spawn Impotent Work Cultures

Many, simple business practices help to instill what's called "learned helplessness" in work cultures.
It's a condition that American psychologist, Martin Seligman, developed in 1967. He came across it during shock experiments on dogs.
Learned helplessness makes any team or culture very resistant to change.
It's because employees come to believe two things:
• First, they don’t handle change well.
• Second, their companies won’t change no matter what leadership says.
In short, they lack confidence in themselves and their companies to change. In the first, they come to fear change more than they should. In the second, they don't see overcoming that fear worth it.

It's critical that companies learn how to avoid mismanagement to improve employee engagement and performance.
