To be honest, I feel like social media is taking the childhood of Gen Alpha away...

The beige moms are probably worried that decorating for Halloween is gonna ruin their 'aesthetic'

We can’t even blame gen alpha, this is the fault of the parents. They rather buy a bag of candy for their kids instead of walking them up and down the street!

I'm kinda "older", so people my age would think it's cringe to wear a costume on Halloween, but I went trick or treating anyway. The only problem is that I went with one of my friends and the entire time she was saying things like "aren't we too old for this?" or "is it weird that we're doing this?" Which made me really sad because I wanted to spend time with her and enjoy the holiday :( at least people in my town actually had trick or treaters

I’m a teenager, and i literally dressed up as a minion; yes, I painted myself yellow thinking it was goofy. There’s no way it’s “lame” for an actual child.

I got five trick or treaters all night, and all of them were teenagers. One of them wasn’t even dressed up. It’s honestly depressing seeing older kids trying to keep the spirit alive while what used to be the main demographic for trick or treating sit at home watching YouTube.

A little positive note:

It's not all dead!! ESPECIALLY in small towns / villages. A couple days ago I visited my aunt and grandmother in my town, both said they had at least 50 kids knock on their door. My sister and I went to a nearby town that's a bit bigger than where we live, and we each got about a pillowcase full of candy!! :D Not to mention some cool decorations I saw - Two houses had speakers playing classic Halloween songs, at least 5 had giant inflatable creatures (Black cats, ghosts, etc.) one had a giant skeleton bigger than their house, and one even had a projector that was playing peanuts on their garage door. It was a good Halloween, it's not all bad :)

My neighborhood was empty, with no trick-or-treaters, but that’s because me and my friends and basically the whole school all go to this one really rich neighborhood that gives out full-sized candy bars, does lots of events and stuff so that’s like the only place that still keeps Halloween alive.

This actually makes me so frustrated. People are buying candy and Halloween costumes using THEIR OWN MONEY so that they can have fun and spread happiness by giving out candy. I’ve never got to experience Halloween because my country doesn’t celebrate it but if I had a chance I would be so excited. But this is just depressing. I really hope next year is better and has more trick-or-treaters.

I unfortunately have a sad beige mum. My little brother and I (He was 4, and I was 18.) wanted to go trick or treating last year. I volunteered to take him. My mum said no, unless I took him, because “the orange and purple everywhere is too ugly and hurts her eyes” so I did. My brother wanted to go as Sonic the Hedgehog. We didn’t get any candy. My street was empty, and one person opened the door.. Just to tell my brother they weren’t doing candy anymore and Halloween was a stupid excuse for a holiday. I will never forget that man. That man made my little brother cry on his favorite holiday. This year, my brother didn’t wanna go trick or treating. Made me upset to know that my brother doesn’t wanna celebrate his favorite holiday…

One thing I noticed too is that halloween was eclipsed by Christmas. They barely put out a tiny crumy aisle for Halloween stuff but by october 15 there was already 5 aisles of Christmas stuff. Last year, halloween was way more prevalent and people decorated. This year it looked miserable. Nobody got into the spirit.

I, a teenager, dressed up as Bandit from Bluey for Halloween. I went trick or treating with my mom, my little brother and two of his other friends. There were many houses that weren’t giving out candy and not very many trick or treaters going out and getting candy. When I was younger, basically every house in our neighborhood had the lights on and were giving out candy and there were tons of kids in costumes trick or treating. It’s sad how the amazing holiday of Halloween is slowly dying out, and in some places, already seemingly has. 🙁

TikTok has ruined you could literately fill in the blank with anything at all and you’d be right.

As a 13 year old girl, I went around in genshin impact cosplays with my friends, saying dialogue as we got our candy. This breaks my heart.

I'm a teenager and I went with a big group of my friends. We had a wide range of ages in our group. I saw way more teenagers out than children. It's sad because when I was 5, I used to cry because I wanted to keep trick or treating. It's so sad watching halloween get smaller and smaller. Last year, I handed candy out. Not one person came to my house. :(

Thankfully this didn’t happen where I’m at. I live in SC, me and my friends got all dressed up in fun costumes and we saw SO MANY people full sized bars, people dressed head to toe and it looking like Halloween threw up over the neighborhood. It breaks my heart to see kids missing out on this because this Halloween will forever remain in my memory

I completely blame parents. If parents actually parented and didnt leave it to technology, kids would be better. If they actually did things with their kids instead of shoving phones in their face, they'd be excited for stuff like trick r treating. Halloween is BIG in my state still, and Im happy about that.

I grew up in the 80s. I remember getting home from school at 4pm, waiting anxiously for an hour or so, eating dinner as fast as possible, dressing up after and hitting the streets in my costume.

I didn't come home....except to empty my PILLOW CASE....TWO OR THREE TIMES. My little brother and I could go for HOURS, all over the neighborhood and EVERY house was giving out SOMETHING.

It got to the point where our mom or dad would drive us a few miles away to a different neighborhood and we'd go for another full pillow case.

This is REALLY sad....

Watching all the enthusiasm and happiness of that last man fade away and how disappointed he was at the end actually made me cry. I feel so sad for him.

Guys, I live outside America and I'll tell you: NOT ALL HOPE IS LOST!!🥳
It must be something in small cities, as someone pointed out
I dressed up with my friends and it was unable to walk cause of the many kids, teens and parents with kids walking or running around
I got out so late it was all gone
I promise guys, we will make this tradition grow and make sure hope doesn't get lost
