Perfectly Hidden Depression, with Dr Margaret Rutherford

Hidden depression can be devastating for anyone trying their best to smile their way through the loneliness and despair. It has its own common traits, but many health professionals misdiagnose it. So how do you know if someone is actually suffering from this when their life looks so perfect? What can be done to treat it?

It takes a long time to remove the layers of suppression and many 'therapists' don't have the skills to help women who have been sexually abused and are poorly equipped to manage their feelings. Some think you just need a friend, some do not know how to guide you to talk more and some cannot handle the topic of sexual molestation and rape. I am 84 and have given up on meds and therapists. Sometimes I found volunteer groups who were more helpful (and free) than the so-called trained professionals.
It was nice to hear these two women.

Thank you for this topic and the way it is presented.

As a 65+ woman who has suffered from depression for many years and needs ongoing treatment, it has taken me hours, days & weeks of searching through pages and pages of therapists online (while fighting through brain fog and low energy that comes with depression) to find ONE that Medicare will pay for!

Before going on Medicare, I was able to choose from many wonderful, qualified, licensed therapists who were covered by my insurance for a small out of pocket co-payment.

It makes no sense to me that Medicare only covers mental health care provided by a Psychiatrist or some other type of PhD or doctor.

I finally did find a PhD who specializes in neuropsychology testing and diagnosis, but who also provides therapy for those of us now on Medicare.

Last time I checked, doctors charge much more than licensed therapists, so what am I missing here?

Thank you for letting me vent.

That's beautiful Tana..."It's nobody else's job to love you but yourself." "Ourselves". I have to ponder a little more on that! 💪🏽
