Join English Physicist Brian Cox, as he discusses scenarios of why we should colonize Mars. The speaker asks “what advances are needed for Humans to colonize a planet like Mars?” In the reply of that Brian Cox answered that we need no technological advances for us to go and colonize mars. We first need to visit Mars and then he also talks about the probability of Mars being the only planet in our solar system other than Earth that can be colonized. In addition to that he talks about water on Mars below the surface or frozen in the ice caps, it’s also got all the minerals that we need to build the civilization.
Moreover he adds that we got technology to extract the water into Oxygen and Hydrogen for humans to breathe and make rocket fuel and generate electricity. He also talks about how it’s hard to Colonize the planets Mercury and Venus. At the end he adds that Anyone from the new generation could walk on the surface of Mars.

I’m not gonna argue with an astrophysicist who certainly knows better than me. My question is: wouldn’t humans have to live underground on Mars in shelters to avoid dangerous levels of radiation and violent sand storms? And if yes, how would we be able to remain above ground long enough to do the terraforming that needs to be done to make Mars as Earth-like as possible without quickly receiving deadly levels of cancer-causing radiation?

There is something so soothing in his voice. I can listen to the guy for hours.

I love the note that he isn’t mentioning potential moons we can colonize because the reporter asked what “planets” we can colonize.

If someone was born in a space station on Mars (with artificial gravity) and on their 18th birthday visited Earth; that experience would be a thousand times more exciting than visiting Mars.

A few of Jupiter's moons are also candidates for colonization.

Mars is like that one collegue at your job that you don't necessarily go along well with but is still the only person you managed to talk to. So you appreciate the relationship although it's far from a perfect one.

I think its important for the majority of people to understand that we have incredible technological advancements ready.
The real issue is that everybody in the world is incentivised by profit. We have no way to make money from colonizing another planet, or reversing climate change, or ending world hunger, so nobody has reason to willing fund the "benefit of mankind"

We don’t need to colonise anything just acknowledge it’s existence and leave it there.

Great points on colonizing Mars! It’s true that we have the technology to start the process today. The abundance of water ice is crucial for sustaining life and generating fuel and oxygen. The idea of using Martian resources to build a self-sustaining colony is incredibly exciting. However, while the basic technology exists, significant advances are still needed to ensure long-term human habitation. For instance, we need better life support systems, radiation shielding, and efficient methods to grow food in Martian soil. The psychological effects of living on another planet and the logistics of creating a thriving community are also major challenges. Terraforming Mars is a whole other level, involving large-scale geoengineering to thicken the atmosphere and increase temperatures. This could take centuries and require breakthroughs in technology and our understanding of planetary science. Colonizing Mars is definitely feasible and a thrilling step for humanity, but we must also be prepared for the immense challenges ahead. What do you think are the biggest obstacles we’ll face?

Imagine the first shuttle landing on Mars. The first guy to ever go there in the history of human existence, sets down his foot. There is something on the ground, something of metal. He picks it up, it's a plate with letters on it. Letters saying "California"

Why in the f$%^ did we have to damage this amazing place to the point where we are?

Basically we at our current maturity of our civilization are scared compared to civilizations of the past. They were traveling the sea for months not even knowing if let alone when they would arrive somewhere. We just sit on the shore staring at a distant land with no plans of trying tongo there.

We have the technology. All that is required is $$$ and a good reason.
