I’m a huge Benz guy. But for under 10k you cannot go wrong with a e90/92 335 or e60 535. The N54 has its share of a few issues but most are easily fixable and a well maintained one can be had for a good price. And there is an absurdly HUGE community for you to indulge in for any support.

The a3 8p chassis also came with a vr6 in the s line trim but the vr6 is awd an dsg trans only for usa. And also the first year for the a3 in usa was 2006. I my self own an a3 with a 2.0t manual transmission and it's had a flash tune and supporting mods to do so and it's a huge difference over stock.

A4 is a better deal than the A3. You get real Quattro and more room. You can also get the B5, B6 or B7 for that price. With a tune, you also get adequate performance for current times.

If you can find them, the mk5 Golf R32 is a good choice too. Great sounding engine with all wheel drive.
