Eye Injury First Aid:
Do not rub the eye. Rubbing can cause further damage to the eye.
Do not try to remove any object that is embedded in or penetrating from the eye. This can cause further injury and should only be done by a medical professional.
Do not persist in examining the eye if the injury is severe. If the injury is severe, it is best to seek medical attention immediately.
Do not apply direct pressure when bandaging the eye. This can also cause further injury.
Gently apply a cold compress to the eye. This can help to reduce pain and swelling.
If the eye is exposed to chemicals, flush the eye with clean water for at least 15 minutes. If you do not have access to clean water, you can use saline solution or a commercial eyewash.
Cover the eye with a clean bandage. This will help to protect the eye from further injury.
Seek medical attention as soon as possible. Even if the injury seems minor, it is important to have it checked out by a doctor to rule out any serious damage.
