Of the two fish you didn't know, the one on the lower right is a rainbow shiner. They are native to the Cumberland River basin in Tennessee, United States. They don't live in the river down there, but instead live in small, clear streams which connect to the river. Like many fish in our hobby, they are becoming rare in the wild. They aren't too hard to breed in captivity, and are fairly common, especially in the aquarium hobby in Europe. They are a little less common here (Canada), but are even available by mail in the United States. These are fish which like friends, so always get several of them at a time or they will be unhappy. They are an egg laying species, so if you try to breed them, you'll need to keep them over gravel with no other fish in the tank or else they will just be spawning snacks in a convenient package for your other fish and snails. To breed them you should start with them in cool water for several weeks, the gradually warm the water over a period of two or three weeks to mimic springtime water changes. They like a gentle current, and will often shoal up around around the filter outlet.

I felt your rage with the guy showing off, pouring that water in all willy-nilly. How dare he not mess everything up like we've all done countless times?? IT'S NOT ALLOWED TO BE THAT EASY.

Re: the snake tank, depending on setup and climate, heating pads can be useful, but it's very important to make sure there's so insolation between it and the snake, and that there is a cool end for the snake to escape.

My favorite centerpiece fish is a betta fish. Put a male betta in a densely planted 20-gallon with a school of green neons and you have got yourself a good tank.

I'm moving to the city away from my home and am finally going to be able to do my own aquascape and fishkeeping. Thank you for getting me ready for this wonderful world for so many years.

Your prayers have been answered! Lineage 8 was recently merged with Brochis following molecular phylogenetics work. That cory there is no longer a Corydoras, it's Brochis pantanalensis.

Regular old bronzes aren't true cories either, they're called Osteogaster now.

As someone who owned a hyper aggressive betta that nonstop flared and needed an intervention to CHILL OUT, can confirm that if the betta is flaring that much at the disco decor it should probably be removed. Flaring too much obviously stresses them out, but also if they're like my little idiot they can manage to tear their own gills and create perma injury or death.

And for anyone wondering, the betta fish in question passed after living 3 years which I'm convinced was purely on spite. Lil dude hated EVERYTHING and it took a long while to repair the damage to his gills. My man was born full of rage.

I need guppy toys. I did make a cave out of a broken terra-cotta pot. It’s big enough for all the relatives to come over and get in there too.

Snake keeper here--heating pads are generally accepted as fine (though not ideal) as long as there is sufficient substrate between it and the snake to prevent the temps getting too high. It's heat rocks and heat ropes that are automatic signs of abuse. However, with the lack of visible substrate and the ridiculously small tank that python was in, we do indeed have a snake abuse case.

I set up a summer tub to make my plants grow like crazy. I also have another half barrel tub that I used to put all my summer vegetable scraps in that makes the most delicious nutrients to add to my fish tank. I just always take a test to see how hot it is before adding a tablespoon or two to fish tank.

I've got a full sized strainer that i can set in my tank and the handles rest in the rim. I line it with a paper towel as well and it makes water fill ups so easy. My patio pond has a big open space in it that fits the container i use to do water changes and i can just lower it into the water then rotate it and lift it out. A gallon in seconds with minimal water disturbance. Having a good tool or system for not taking to manually control that flow is key to fish keeping if you ask me.

It wasn't my fish directly but growing up my mom had this massive 100 something gallon tank. We had this huge Pleco who, as a child, I would just called him Suck. He loved getting pets, and at some point we got lucky and acquired a blue lobster, My Gourami would tempt fate and mess with him constantly. We also had a cow fish tank, but bro was mad stupid and got himself stuck one day while we were out and drowned himself.

QOTW: Gold wonder killifish are an amazing centerpiece. Bright, gold and red coloration with active surface dwelling tendencies. Kind of like a betta to feed and even acts like one but is more active. Very peaceful and entertaining to watch it forage for bits of food. One could work in a 20 gallon or in a m/f/f trio in a 30 gallon. Only con is that its somewhat hard to find and is not shrimp safe, otherwise amazing community fish.

Can you do a fish room tour? I would like to see how the tanks have been doing.

RAINBOW DARTER IS THE BEST SMALL FISH HANDS DOWN. They're like little puppies that hop around the bottom of the tank following you around and watch you through the glass
