This company want to build a giant vertical farm near your city
Показать описание
Vertical farming, the practice of growing crops indoors using vertical space to intensify production, has been widely hyped for its potential to revolutionize agriculture. Its benefits relative to conventional farming have been long known: indoor environments enable year-round climate control, pest reduction without the need for pesticides, and precise application of water and nutrients.
However, the main drawback of vertical farming is cost, as farming at scale requires specialized knowledge and expertise. Many startups have failed to consistently produce high-quality food while reducing costs, resulting in a graveyard of failed vertical-farming ventures. Despite this, a Silicon Valley startup named Plenty has managed to secure significant funding and plans to build a 100,000 square foot vertical-farming warehouse in Kent, Washington, designed to produce 4.5 million pounds of greens annually.
