My father in law was a captain and sailed almost everywhere for a few decades till he became a marine surveyor, and the stories he would recount were nothing short of enthralling. He forever walked with a rolling sea gait, and as a Scott loved his whisky. He taught me the bawdiest ever poem called Good Ship Venus or Friggin' in the Rigging made famous by the Sex Pistols. Took me aboard some international cargo ships and some of those engine rooms and turbines left me gob smacked and heat/fuelwise it was like a taste of hell. So much respect for these men 💪.
