Jos Verstappen is a controversial figure in Formula One. He is not very popular, and that's an understatement. People blame him for the chaos at Oracle Red Bull Racing and say that he has treated his son poorly.
In this video I show what Jos Verstappen has done for Max Verstappen and what he sacrificed.

I hope you"ll get a million of likes and this will go viral. The way Jos, and Max are treated by (mostly British) media has been a disgrace, let alone the poisonous social media.

I certainly wouldn't have raised/treated my child that way, but Max seems to have no problem with it himself, and I respect his judgement. He's an adult, and he can judge his childhood better than I can. My dad left when I was a baby. I respect father's that don't.

I was frustrated with Jos's constant statements to the press in early 2024. I still question the wisdom of airing those inner conflicts to the rabid F1 press, but my god, was he ever right about Horner and the disaster to come.

I obviously condemn any violence between him and any women in the past, but I'm not the sort of person to judge or write someone off because of mistakes they've made in their lives. Very few of us have made it through life without making mistakes, and indeed most of us don't have those mistakes publicly advertised.

The Dutch are very much a what doesn't kill you makes you stronger people, generally. Tough as nails, using bicycles from a very tender age, rain, snow or storm, going to school all by yourself, if you were lucky to have a school friend live nearby then go together, but parents let children roam by themselves at quite a young age. Everything that Jos did, even the bad, you can't really judge that from the outside, from hearsay. Yes he had loose hands at some occasions, not very commendable behaviour, but he loves his son and he loves him back and most of the behaviour stems from being overprotective, probably quite often lack of sleep due to immense commitment to the racing sport. The results don't lie, and his methods proved to have worked. I just pity the fragile fools who are only loud when at the safety of sitting behind a screen.

I completely agree, Wimbo. Jos knew how vicious F1 is. If he hadnt trained him for mental toughness, Max would never have made it in 2021, he wouldnt have even challenged Lewis. Look at Max now, everything he has to deal with amd the British Bias, too. But Jos knew as a Dutch driver and seeing how they hated Michael, Mac needed to be tough.
Also, Jos knew you only get 1 chance in F1, there is too much money for people to risk on you if you cant cut it.
And Sophie really loves Max. She wouldnt have given him to Jos if there was abuse happening.

There is much hate about Jos in the world. But I think thats bias. Look a German GP 1994, where Jos is sitting literally in fire. Other drives would have quitted. As a driver he had a lot of bad luck. My opinion is, that Jos was capable to do a lot more. You made this point very well.

I think it is sonehow a shame what people and the media report about the relationship between a father and his son. I will be brutally honest: I‘m from the late Gen X and I understand the way Jos parented Max and also I do simillary to my son. It’s called „tough love“ and sonstimes he is yelling „You are the most terrible dad in the world.“ But in my eyes this is the way things should work. Fathers are fathers, not brothers or Friends - maybe later in life that will change.

But - very strange… Max and Jos now have a good and intense relationship. How many families can compete with that? Not sooo much, I think.

I can‘t understand, why Gasly told this Story from carting days. He is not new in F1 and knows what Happens after telling this to media. I would have shut up about family Stories from other people - especially in front of a mikrophone.

Truth. Imagine also all the toxicity new generations will have just beneath their skin because they're all trying to do good and they've heard all the time how good they are. All the time still suffering the human condition. Some things may seem harsh to others, but openness, and candid honesty are much more better than living a thousands lies for the sake of appearance.

I do still think Jos should've been a bit more careful with what and how he aired the dirty laundry this year. Even if some of it is true / becoming a reality. Showing support for Marko is of course a honourable thing to do. Publicly shaming the Team Principal is never a smart move in my opinion. But his training overall of Max has been very good and it definitely helped Max succeed. Jos was a very very good driver, had definitely more potential than what was realised. With Harvey dying and the Honda project killed, also Jos last chance died. However Max is also who he is and more successful than his dad, because of his mother. Sophie was also a very fast driver in her karting days and I'd like to think it's the best of both of them + Jos training that made Max so damn good. It's as if Max has Jos' raw speed but with a bit of Sophie's finesse sprinkled on top.

If Jos lets Woke sentiments get to him, the whole team loses its Mojo . Much the same as whats happening to the way of life in most of Europe at the moment .

I have realised some people put their kids into training so early is cause they themselves realised in their career of same sport that it was too late for them. Also people in west are just too soft. 24 and still get hit in the head with the slipper from mum sometimes.
