Well I mean, it's not like Netflix or at that any type of watching a movie at home was ever meant to be a replacement for the cinema. Do you go to the cinema for every single movie you want to watch? No, you don't. The cinema counts as a night out with maybe a buddy or your girlfriend/boyfriend, the whole surround sound and massive screen is part of the reason you go sure but it's kind of more about the experience of watching it with someone.

Nothing will ever beat the experience of going to a cinema!

I like going to the movies not only for all of the bells and whistles, but also because it is a sort of collective event where you and some other people are all watching a film together; however, I do come from a small town where a theatre holds 100 at maximum capacity, so I guess I get the best of both worlds

Netflix won't replace the cinema, although I think more small budget films will premier on Netflix along side cinemas. It would obviously reduce the financial risk taken by the studio if Netflix offer them 75% or something similar of the production cost

Some people don't live close to theaters my closest theater would be an hour drive so releasing on digital on demand on same day release would make the movie studios more money IMO.

the cinema will never go away as long as there are people going on first dates

The cost of TV's, large ones, are also going down. One could save them selves the costs of going out, buy a large TV, 3D if they wish, and pocket the savings.

Short answer: It already has.

Buying a 4K big screen and surround sound will be cheaper than a lifetime of cinema tickets and snacks for every big movie.

Thing is though, big blockbuster films won't ever get shown on Netflix at the same time as the cinema release. The only films that will get released on Netflix at the same time as the cinema release would be small indie films. So no Netflix isn't gonna replace cinema...

People saying the cinema will never be replaced by Netflix, apparently don't have or ever seen a Dope Ass! Home theatre setup. If you have a 65' to 70' 4k TV with amazing surround sound and big comfortable chairs( recliners) and the kitchen right next to you with a fridge fully stocked. This shits on the Cinema! I'll wait for every movie to come to Blu-Ray no problem.

Will 'journalists' ever stop asking questions as headlines?

They talk about Cinema as huge cinema fans. Most people just want to watch the latest movie. And I know that a huge majority would just pay ten bucks or so to watch it in their home instead of paying for transport, sit in a cinema with people sometimes being rude and annoying. Plus all the time that you loose between that. Big screen tvs are very affordable now and you can get a solid 60 inch tv for around 1000 bucks. Add another 500-700 bucks for a solid surround sound system and a nice pair of headphones and there you go. Now you have a home cinema experiene in your home. And you can now make your own popcorn for less than a buck, instead of paying 5+ bucks. You might think 1500 bucks in much for that. But think about this. Two tickets along with popcorn and soda is around 50 bucks. Now do that 10 times a year for three years. That's 1500 bucks for you. Streaming to people homes is the future and everyone knows it. It goes for tv, films and also video games.

Going to a movie theatre is an experience!

Short answer (in my opinion); no, 1. Because it isnt a available in all countries (e.g. Australia) and 2. It doesnt have the same feel as seeing a movie in the theatre, you dont just pay to see a movie on a big screen, you also pay for the excitment of seeing it on a buge screen, will it replace cinemas for some people? Yes. For everyone? Not at all.

If the movie theaters don't upgrade then they will become outdated! They need to include dbox seats in every theatre!

I love it when my cinema shows old films, or TV shows, I've been to see all the Doctor Who that has been on, I'd totally pay to watch something like GoT at the cinema :D

I particularly love Netflix. The monthly subscription is cheap and even though it may be lacking in some of the memorable and classic movies, the movie and TV series selections are still pretty good.
Frankly i love going to the cinemas, but the experience is more breathtaking when you have someone to go with so that you can laugh with a make quiet movie commentaries during the movie. Besides, in Jamaica we have intermission which ruins the flow of the movie and some people love to be rude and loud during the movie which can be really annoying.
If you want to watch a new movie with a huge screen and excellent surround sound and have a friend or two who want to tag along, go to the cinema. However, if you don't mind being at home with a few friends and want to watch a movie, microwave some popcorn and snacks, use your Google Chromecast on your big screen television and enjoy a very decent movie experience with Netflix. Either way you can never go wrong with both.
