weirdly enough, 2020 was a great reading year for me and i managed to finish 99 books (yes, i did a cheeky little round up to 100 there). what lessons have i learned from this experience? and what are my top favourite books out of the 100 last year?

what books / how many books did you read in 2020? which were your favourites?

i talk about:
- books, books, books!
- reading and writing
- fiction vs. non-fiction
- my favourite books
- not too fussed about this genre?
- i wrote a thriller book
- modern classics / contemporary romance / author memoirs / fiction / novels / thrillers / sci-fi / crime
- commercial novels – upmarket novels – literary novels
- the value of short stories
- getting reading tips from instagram and twitter
- ways to read more ethically
- audio books and podcasts
- listening vs. reading to books
- happy reading in 2021!

Thank you for promoting reading! I think reading is one of the most amazing things that you can do in life - it gives you hope, and insights into situations that you wouldn't be able to experience otherwise! It also builds up your vocabulary and tolerance to other cultures! You can learn so much, without even moving out of your bed if you don't want to! Reading is trully amazing! ❤

My fave read last year was Circe and A Song of Achilles! Wonderful writing. I read 113 books and unfortunately, as an avid reader for years now and a librarian, reading this many books make it more difficult to feel amazed haha it does happen but not in the same way. Does not mean i don’t enjoy the books. But the rib is getting higher and higher. And YES! DNF the crappy reads, there are too many good ones out there for you to waste your time. Haha

I’m going to get back into reading by reading a book a month, it’s not much but I’m excited!

Yes!!! I stop reading books halfway all the time, and read like 5 books at once. My boyfriend hates it - he's very dedicated to reading only 1, maybe 2 books at once and finishing every book he starts. Very different reading styles, it really depends on the person.

I love using Libby for audiobooks and ebooks, as I can borrow easily from several of the libraries where I have a library card. Best advice I have got for people who love to read but don't have a large budget for books. I also love the fact that I can support my local bookshops that have an online shop, by purchasing audiobooks and ebooks from them as well as physical copies.

It would be great with a "all the books I have read in 2020"!!! where you go trough the 100 books you have read. It sounds like you read a lot of interesting books

The best thing I've read last year was definitely "The Left Hand of Darkness" by Ursula Le Guin. Given how hard 2020 was, I gave in and started reading almost exclusively fantasy and sci-fi to find some joyful escapism, and read "Dune" and "The Left Hand of Darkness" one after another. Oh my God. Le Guin wrote her book only 4-5 years later than Gerbert, but how unique and modern it is in comparison! I was blown away by hear style and language and kindness and creativity, by how real and bright the world of Winter felt, and I will for sure reread it in the future. Increadible book.

Loved Normal People too! The Alice Network by Kate Quinn was my favorite novel from 2020!

reading is totally meditation to me! I realised how stressed i got last year because I barely read anything, so i set a goal to read 12 books by the end of 2021. Turns out I'm halfway through book number 6 and it's still February, loving it! <3

Favourtite book this year was 'Before the coffee gets cold'. Amazing book telling 4 stories of people travelling back in time through a little cafe in Tokyo.
I read 20 books last year, which is A LOT for me! Want to read at least one more than that this year.
I'm actually the opposite to Jenny, I read more non-fiction, because I love learning new things, I like facts and non-fiction books are easier to read for me (INTP personality showing).
About half of the books I read were non-fiction, three of them were audiobooks.

Would love more book videos! I feel like we have similar taste in books, and I'm always looking for good recommendations. I didn't get around to reading alot last year so I'm starting this year by rereading The fault in our stars because it just hits a sweet spot in me and always makes me wanting to read more books♡

Reading one of my favorite books. Rebecca. And I just read Joan Didion. In the category you love may I suggest “84, Charing Cross Road” by Helen Hanff if you have not already read it.

My favorite reads of 2020 were Braiding Sweetgrass (Robin Wall Kimmer) and The Enchanted (Rene Denfeld). I found that the chaos of 2020 actually re-sparked my love of reading and its escapism. I appreciate your non-amazon recommendations as someone who currently uses audible and is looking for alternatives!

I have also read so many more books in 2020! I have mostly listened to audiobooks, because it was great to listen to when I took a walk (I walked 1-2 hours per day), doing dishes or in the bathroom when getting ready for bed. I read almost every morning now and I love the routine with a coffee before work. But I don't read stories. I read about design thinking, life lessons (yes those self-help books), creativity in teams and that type of books. 2020 has been a major year of personal growth for me and learning about human behaviour & how to think about life is the force behind that :)
My top suggestion is the book that started it all for me: Atomic Habits. It's about how you design your everyday to make small changes that in the end will change your life! Like reading more books <3

This is very inspiring, I’m trying to stop romanticize reading and actually read and I’ll definitely use your tips 😌
