Since his television debut with Derren Brown: Mind Control in 2000 he’s produced multiple series and specials, winning two Laurence Olivier Awards. Derren doesn’t claim to possess any supernatural powers and his acts are often designed to expose the methods of those who do. He often claims his impossible effects are merely achieved through "magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection, and showmanship".

Yes. Derren's shows clearly state the variety of skills he may employ. It's disappointing every time somebody defaults to "I don't know how it was done so it must be telepathy/"real" magic/witchcraft etc". It was a nice performance otherwise.

This may be a red herring. While Derren will tell the general techniques used at the start of each show, during each trick he may say mislead to give the impression he's letting you in (eg "From your expression/smile/way your hand is, I can tell that..." He may even go so far as to invoke supernaturalism with "Some people believe..." to give a mystical sounding aura. I don't agree with the use of the latter tactic because it can blur the lines of his sceptical position. Big thumbs up otherwise.
