2015 Subaru WRX Review

The new 2015 Subaru WRX--it's a fanboy's dream. It throws off hundreds of turbocharged horsepower, and serves up awesome grip with some of the best all-wheel-drive hardware on the planet.

It also looks like an aftermarket tuner job--on purpose--and comes with a CVT. So are the Internet trolls right? Did Subaru ruin the WRX this time around, or did it make the best WRX yet?

Our guy Joel Feder shows you which side of the double-yellow line we come down on in this video road test.

Great job, man. This video gives me a great idea of what to expect when my WRX arrives in April. Keep up the good work.

It had a bit of a boxer rumble sound when he pulled away at the end even with the equal length headers at 4:33. That surprised me.

It's really frustrating that this is the only video I've seen where someone's bothered to put a camera & microphone right by the exhaust so you can hear its sound... and then there's narration and corny music over the top of it. This is particularly interesting for WRX fans, since this new car won't have the uneven-length exhaust "Boxer Rumble" that we're familiar with. Can you please upload a 30-second clip with the new WRX's exhaust note?

To the guy picking the SI over the REX. The SI CA only dream of being in the same performance as the wrx(both speed and handling). If your worried about mpg dont get a performance car. And 21/28 mpg is really good for a car that get to 60 in 5 seconds range.

How does it look aftermarket? It looks more refined... Look at the previous models in comparison.

CVT is not Standard.. It's a $1, 200 Option!

This was a pretty good review, but there was some misinformation. Subaru never said they would not bring the hatchback back they just won't have it this year. You said only the boxy fenders and hood are new but everything but the roof, glass, and trunk lid is separate from the Impreza.

So, I bought a wrx 2015 CVT in 2016 for 36, 500$, used obviously, and let me tell you the multiple problems that I had until now !!! Twice, problems with the oil leakage between the transmission, and the diff !! Check engine multiple times everytime it rained or snowed, and the dealership couldn’t figure it out why ??? Well, they finally found the problem, and it was a misfire on the 3rd cylinder !! Then, after 6 months, problem again with check engine, and this time it was the harness for the computer !!! I only have 38 000 miles as of today, the car had an issue with the A/C on friday, may 15, 2020 . Brought it again to the dealership, where they discovered that there was no more FREON 😭😭😭!!! Since I own this car, just in repairs, more than 4000$ !!! Not only does this LEMON cost me more than 250$/month in fuel at 94 (which is about 1.54$/litre) JESUS CHRIST ALMIGHTY, but it is a pain in the ass to own it !! My dream car turned into a f🤬k’n nightmare !!!
NB: NO MODS WERE EVER DONE TO MY CAR !!! Messed up ??? Might change this LEMON for an SUV !!

The 2015 wrx cvt accelerates as fast as an 02 wrx with 5spd manual (227 hp). Already confirmed. Soo unless you're buying the stick, then you're screwed on speed.

I have a speed 3(2013) and LOVE it. But am thinking of the REX.

I'm seeing speculation on the hatchback coming back. I'm really hoping it's true...

when you say 45 55 is that standard untill awd requiresdifferent distribution

manual should be the ONLY transmission in a wrx

What's with all the negative stuff this guy is mentioning. The interior kicks ass. I own this car in the FUN or base model. If you drive like a maniac on the freeway, you still get 31mpg. if you stick around 70, 35mpg. This would be easier accomplished in the CVT (in Intelligent Mode). If you think these numbers are bogus, ask a 2015 owner.

I do frown on straight roads that aren't perfectly paved but the grin comes back when I'm glued to the road around a corner.

The Torque curve is .... different. Different from what I am used to but probably similar to those on the road now. The throttle curve in the manual is great in the CVT because the mid range torque really sits you in the seat. The CVT likes to stay in the torque curve the whole time so if you raced 2 stock wrx's with different transmissions, the CVT would pull away from you on the freeway with ease. I opt'd for a manual because I didn't need the premium model & saved about 4 grand not upgrading to premium & CVT.

All in all, awesome car. Reliable as hell and I get complements everywhere. this guy sort of makes someone who's excited about the car think twice and its bullshit because he doesn't know what he's talking about. he drove it one time.

Just so we're clear, despite the summer performance tires the wrx still drives fine on wet roads or is it more dangerous?

Wow! You should spec a WRX in Canada, $37K for a sport-tech!!
