As an Evo person, I'm starting to get into wrx more and more.
Props to Subaru for keeping their wrx alive.

Mitsubishi broke my heart

2016. It is roughly 2500 to 3000 rpms. That is where I get my boost. All stock. Yes there something's I would like to change, but I can tune it after the warranty is up.

Good review. But I own a 2015 wrx and I get plenty of power from 2500rpm on if you are at atleast 30% throttle. You hear the turbo spool right up

Idk how you can drive this car and say that the power kicks in at 4k rpm... full torque hits in the 2, 000's. Its just a plain lie to say that the boost threshold (the lag) is that much when its not

i traded my 07 sti for a 17 wrx and let me say: wtf, this car handles like no other. it carves through like a hot knife. only bad thing is needing to stop on slippery surface with these factory summer tires, you can go but stopping makes the abs go nuts. never thought wrx was worthy enough, it is!!!

He's confusing 4k rpm turbo lag with the weird throttle response with the stock tune on these cars

If power was coming on at 4K RPM, then your car was broken. Power comes on at 2.8-3K RPM in mine. Thats not to say that it does not kick like an absolute mule at 3K aha. One of the great things about the new engine on the 2015 is the new twin scroll turbo, as for the first time ever the WRX doesn't drive like a turbocharged car from the early 90's. That being said I think you reached a very good point at the end.

So sad that there's no hatch version, but Micah your an awesome reviewer. Very refreshing to see a good car reviewer especially on KBB where that was the last place I would have thought to have good car reviews

this guy is high on drugs power does not come In at 4000 rpm, more like 2.5 rpm.

Even though half of the cars are not available here in my country I do like the way you guys review cars, great insight, features and then you roll the ball towards the consumer to make his decision..

I own a 2017 and the power comes in at about 2k - 2.5k rpms in second gear and it really starts to pull in third. It feels ("feels") like it loses power at above 5k rpms, but it really doesn't, it just seems to because the turbo spools so quickly in the lower rpms. I had a hard time getting used to the earlier boost coming from a 2010 mazdaspeed 3 which had a lot more turbo lag (but damn was it fun when that turbo kicked in) :D

Nice review, though I will say the turbo kicks in at full boost way earlier then 4k rpm especially it higher gears it hits around 2500 and full boost is obtained before 3000.

are you kidding!?! MAX torque is 2000-2500rpm. Boost comes on as early as 2000rpm, 0-60 times are as quick as a new WRX STI. I drive these cars every day working for Subaru. These cars are super fun to drive and very very quick as a daily driver.

Im 6'5 so with me having to have the seat all the way back, the arm rest is perfect lol...

I really like how he took into consideration all of the high points of a WRX and said that it "basically operates in a class of one". That's how I feel. There are cars that are close but I think that people that buy these cars are like me and are after something pretty specific.

Just got my dark grey metallic 2015 6MT WRX Limited last week! I LOVE it exactly what I wanted to get out of my boring 2010 RDX. Don't really agree with this guy about driving full throttle, there is boost coming on at about 3200rpm. I am currently in break in phase for the first 1600km so I have not felt what comes after 4k rpm but look forward to it. So far car is awesome and I am fully enjoying it. Mods to come soon, JDM Dual console upgrade over stock armrest, tinted windows and short throw shifter in time and the list goes on and on!

You do realise that with the new twin scroll turbo, this car has about all his torque at 2, 5K RPM and not at 4K RPM like the old one? I have well enough power at city speed in my opinion. Still a nice review though!

I’ve driven one and want to buy one. If you short shift it and keep it under the turbo in 1st gear you can ride the power through all the gears smoothly. It’s a clutch thing for those who didn’t grow up with one or drive motorcycles.

The power delivery problem can easily be fixed with a AccessPort from Cobb tuning. I got it, and it completely changed the way the car performed under various throttle positions. It makes the power delivery more linear like its older brother, the WRX STI. I absolutely love driving my WRX now.
