Six steps to wearing the N95 mask

The use of N95 mask increases the effort in breathing and may cause discomfort, tiredness or headache. As some people with chronic lung disease, heart disease or stroke may already have reduced lung volumes or breathing issues, they should stop using a N95 mask if they feel uncomfortable. They should consult their doctor as to whether they can use the N95 mask.

The N95 mask is not suitable for pregnant women and children.

Persons with chronic lung or heart conditions who feel uncomfortable when wearing the N95 masks should stop doing so and consult a doctor before carrying on.

Note: Persons who are not feeling well should seek medical attention

OK but what if the "breath test" fails on one side? How much of a break in the seal is OK? What do you do if it isn't OK? Anyone can figure out how to put a mask on, that's not what we need medical expertise with. It's how to seal it correctly per N95 protection.

THIS VIDEO IS INCORRECT. I teach a safety class on Respiratory Protection. According to NIOSH (National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) you put on the TOP strap FIRST. The top strap should rest on the crown of your head. The bottom strap is placed second resting just below your ears. The top strap is placed first to make sure the respirator is positioned correctly. The bottom strap is purely an anchor and should not shift the mask. And yes, a fit test should be done every time before using a mask.

These fit up high on the nose, and because of that, it is difficult to wear them with glasses.

These instructions miss a few crucial things:

* When removing the mask, do not touch the outside of the mask as it is likely contaminated
* These are one-time-only use masks!
* In general, these masks cannot be worn 24/7... not enough air gets through

jw but how do i know when my mask should be replaced? is there a way to tell? i wore mine for about an hour today. i'm going to leave it to the side for about 7-8 days just in case it has anything on the surface, but ya is there a way to tell when the filter is no longer working?

Honestly I’d rather stay home, those masks are difficult to wear, I almost passed out in the store, couldn’t wait to get in the car .

Good luck finding those masks at cost. I got 5 and now I'm using surgical gloves because someone closeby tested positive.

This is why people who suspect or know they have the virus should wear masks to protect OTHERS, and why health care personnel MUST have masks to protect themselves.
If health care workers can't stay healthy who will care for the rest of us?
Don't buy masks unless YOU have the virus or you're in health care.
