Not to mention they have a massive reserve army (for their size) that can mobilize very quickly thanks to their conscription

It also blocks Russian access to the Baltic Sea.

If Russia wasn't barbaric, neighboring nations would not waste their time or effort joining nato !

Let’s not forget that Finland gave up land in ww2 so that Russia does not invade them after the disastrous winter war!

There is no consequence for Finland. If there is a consequence it would be on Russia, which means Russia would fear Finland more. God bless Finland 🇫🇮 and the people.

Nothing wrong with a nation trying to preserve its citizens from a bullying despot neighbor.

How would USA react if Soviet put a nuclear arsenal at its doorstep say, Cuba? Oh wait . They did and we know how they reacted.

Also, there is only one route of railways and one highway between Saint Petersburg and the Kola peninsula... Finlandia along with NATO would thread the russian access to its nuclear arsenal in that peninsula.

Hopefully Russia will come to realize its aggressive stance is archaic in the modern world.

Why does Ruzzia fear Finland? Why wouldn't they fear Finland? Finland is everything the fat lazy bear is not. Small but nimble, in business, statecraft and defense, Finland punches well above its weight. Not so Ruzzia, which cannot get out of its own way. Finland has true democracy. Ruzzia is a gangsterocracy which practices the mores of the prison block. In Finland people have right to the government, while in Ruzzia the reverse is true. Fin all and has a smart, modern, professional military with up-to-date technology. They also gave a sizeable reserve that is trained to assume the burden if national defense if needed. Finns are smart. They are healthy and care for each other. Many western countries could learn from them. To the average Ruzzian, the terrain if Finland would probably seem familiar, but the people and society would seem like from another planet, rather like the people of Samuel Butler's _Erewhon_.

When you consider that his predecessors invaded Finland twice over, and the fact that he has just been working very hard to take over another neighbor for most of this past year, I should think that Finland joining NATO would not be a surprise to the russians. I think, however, all of this could have been for stalled years ago had NATO offered Russia membership in NATO after the collapse of the Soviet union. You see, the greater threat still is China, which is still openly communist. Like most of the republics that are parts of the former Soviet union, Russia has pretty much the evolved into. This is not nearly as much of a threat as a philosophically dedicated Nation looking to create satellites United with it in that philosophy.

NATO wont dare to attack through ground forces, but that they can position nuclear weapons so close to Russia without any real threat of Russian being able to attack the country where the nukes are in is the key. Its just as if Ukraine would have joined NATO, a threat to Russian national security.

Edit: If NATO would start off a Nuclear conflict from Finnish borders Russia couldn't attack back in time. Thats what i meant with Russia wont be able to attack back.

The most important consequence is that the Gulf of Finland now totaly closes of Russian sea trade. On one side the Baltic states on the other side Finland. This is a hilariously bad situation for the Russian navy. It will also give good access for NATO warships to patrol outside St Petersburg.

There is no threat from NATO at all… unless a country attacks a NATO member. It’s “beware of the dog and better don’t trespass”. Only a person with bad intentions would be very worried about the dog. Isn’t?

They are not affraid of Finland, as Finland has been NATO aligned many years already, but USA in general scares them like nothing else.
