Is Apple's new iPad mini worth your money?

The newly redesigned iPad mini isn’t an iPad Pro mini. It’s an iPad Air mini. Which is cool, because the original iPad Air was literally an iPad mini biggie. Point being, the mini and the Air, the Air and the mini, they’ve mostly been in lockstep over the last many years. Mostly. This year, the mini is playing catch up… but also one up. It’s getting almost all the features of Apple’s sleekest iPad — bigger, edge to edge display, but candy-colored shells, if not as many colors, Touch ID in the Power button, USB-C, stereo landscape speakers, Apple Pencil 2, if no Magic Keyboard mini, Sub-6 5G, if no mmWave, but also rocking a new A15 chipset and Center-Stage capable front camera. But, in addition to losing the Home button, it’s also lost its headphone jack, and while it’s the most feature-packed iPad mini ever, it’s also the most expensive, starting at the same 64GB, but now priced at $499. So, is Apple’s biggest mini worth it?

I waited for this version to drop. I always loved the mini, but I knew it would have a great design one day. And now I am happy to finally join the iPad experience with this model. 🥰

I absolutely love mine! I upgraded from an iPad Air 1 so it doesn't really matter what I get since I came from an obsolete model. I use it mostly for reading. It's easier to bring it and easier to read things on the go, compared to the larger iPad Air. and its just the right size when you want to read in bed or even watch Netflix.

There is an error in your comparison table. The iPad Pro 11 has a 120hz display not 60hz. It also shows the iPad Pro 12.9 having a size of 21.9”

I have been using the iPad mini 5 for over a year and got fed up of sticking the 1st gen pencil in the end to charge it. I thought of upgrading to the iPad mini 6 but wondered if it was worth it. I made the jump last week and picked up a 256gb mini 6 and I am blown away by its performance. I also have an iPad Pro 12.9 and thought I would just be using the mini for travelling but it has become my go to device. I love it and I have not found anything I don’t like about it. However I would recommend getting a 2nd gen pencil, which is brilliant for note taking on the move.

Just to be a bit nit picky:
At 6:48 you mentioned that "Apple has never positioned the Mini as an entry level product", however that's not true. When the Mini launched in 2012, it was definitely an entry-level product and actually started as the same $329 price as today's entry level iPad. The first few generations of Mini were definitely targeting the entry-level market for tablets and it wasn't until the generic "iPad" series launched where the Mini became a "mid-range" iPad instead of entry level.

I’ve had a tremendous positive experience with the mini5 for on the go content creation. It is also better for consumption over my 12.9 pro, and the battery is better too. So I ordered the mini6 and not an M1 air or pro because this size is hands down better on the go.

Touch ID in the power button is, by far, my *favourite* feature from this little tablet.

Hopefully it indicates to Apple that it's customers want it back and a combination of Face ID and Touch ID is the ideal combination that its users want in the iPhone 14. 🙏🏻

The Apple announcement was seriously lacking this year. But this iPad mini I think stole the show! This is the first year ever that I’m not going to upgrade phone or watch. But I am getting this money because it’s just so cool!

Planning to get this for my daughter for her birthday. She’s still using my old basic iPad 5th gen (2017). The home button is having a little problem already, so this is a good upgrade for her little hands..

For all the many tech reviews I've watched, on YouTube, you and another guy are my absolute favorites!! I thoroughly enjoy your genuine enthusiasm, and that you always get right to the review, before mentioning any subscription deals or product offers.
I already made up my mind that I'm going to purchase the Mini, along with the Gen 2 Pencil. Seeing your video helped to reinforce my reasoning!
My biggest challenge is figuring out if I should go with the 256G, as opposed to the 64. I do much more streaming of music, audiobooks, movies, shows, and simple games, than anything else. But something is telling me, especially since I plan on using the device a lot, for years to come, that I should have that larger storage on it so it's there if I ever need it.
