iPad mini (2024) - THE TRUTH!

Apple finally updated the iPad mini and it has been met with some pretty harsh reviews making this one of the lowest scored iPads ever, however, after digging deeper I realized that this iPad mini is actually a huge improvement over the last model... except in one key area that might make or break this device.

I found the iPad mini in the gutter, I picked it up with the tip of my Apple Pencil and cleaned it, and place it atop my own hand.

I think the iPad mini (A17 Pro) is an unfortunate victim of cancel culture. I have watched COUNTLESS (pre)review videos while waiting for it on the 23rd and since I got it in my hands. As I have the iPad Pro and the iPhone 16PM, the mini fits right into my family of devices. So, my question is: Are there any POSITIVE videos for this iPad? I mean, coming from a fading iPad mini 5 with a trade-in value of $180, this new mini was worth every penny.

I always hated the mini line until mini 6 came out. That became my go to iPad, leaving my iPad Pro to collect dust. I carried my Mini 6 everywhere for over two years, and I am now upgraded to Mini A17Pro. I have been using iPads exclusively since iPad #1 came out and I know what I like.

The 2027 iPad mini 8 will probably get an OLED screen, thinner bezels & face ID. But for now, the iPad mini 7 is a decent update. And if you’re coming from an iPad mini 5 like me, it’s a HUGE update!

I bought one….watching this on it in fact…

I had a 128 gig mini 4. People spent 499.00 for a mini 6 with 64 gig. There was a 150.00 difference between that and 256 gig.
On the new I pad there is a 100.00 difference.
I bought the 256 gig as I plan to have this iPad a long time. My 128 gig mini 4 lasted 9 years. With AI, you don't know how much memory the other apps are going to eat up so you are covered in that regard.

I'm seriously thinking about getting one. Thanks for breaking it down ✌🏼️

I am an advocate of the iPad mini and as I predicted, it is snappier like going from the iPhone 15 to the 16. I completely agree with everything you said about the display and your description of this being a third device is bang on.

You’re an iPad Pro lover expecting to see the same specs in a mini. For this to be a good review, you should be more aware of what the product that you’re reviewing is

I appreciate your level-headed take. Too many reviewers try too closely to compare this model to its predecessor, and too few prospective buyers appreciate the benefits of a device that doesn't change much from generation to generation. Keep your devices around longer and, while using them, focus on the tasks you're using them for and not on the device itself and you will be happier.

I'm as miffed about the display as anyone because just about every other display I own runs at 120 Hz or greater, but I'm a realist. Give this a 120 Hz OLED and you increase the sales price by $100 or more, discouraging a vast swathe of the silent majority from buying who care more about the price than about the display.

Another thing about displays -- there is no perfect display, and there never will be. Not even your eyes or brain -- the final output devices in the chain of vision -- will ever be perfect, and they will only continue to worsen as you age. I realized in the pursuit of the perfect display that...

- LCDs are cheap, predictable, and responsive but washed out. IPS improves the latter aspect over TN.
- VA displays feature better contrast, but might produce a headache for being less responsive and show heavy discoloration when viewed at an angle.
- CRTs have blazing response times, great colors, and the unique vignette of scan lines, but their green phosphors decay slowly, producing a smeared afterimage.
- OLEDs give near-instant response times and a virtually true black, but are dimmer and might suffer from the mura effect. Though a feature of our visual system and not of OLEDs, haloing will appear around bright objects on a dark background.
- Mini LED displays are brighter than OLEDs, but their few dimming zones will produce an uneven set of gray-black tones and a watercolor effect in demanding scenes.

For all their shortcomings, LCDs really aren't that bad, discounting 'jelly scrolling'.

I honestly love my iPad mini 7, did I need to upgrade probable not, but double the storage, double ram, faster processor, good trade in value for the 6 mini and eventual apple intelligence, I’m happy

I love my mini! Great review! I use it for reading on the Kindle app, a daily calendar, word games/crossword puzzles and movies for the plane. I never take my IPad Pro traveling anymore. The mini is great for emails and light business work. It is pricey after all the add-ons but I use it daily!

Bro, that Tsukasa in the background was distracting me lmao. Never thought to see an enstars character in a ipad mini video. Aaaanyways, great review! I recently purchased the ipad mini 7 and I'm super happy with it!

Seeing as I part exchanged my 5th Gen, this was definitely a worthwhile purchase. If I’d already been using a 6th Gen, that might have been a different story.

Thanks for the content.

Premium review Greg. I bought one for the first time, and I collected it on Friday. So I am still navigating through it. Contrary to previous iPads that I owned, I intend to keep it simple, many apps I already use on a regular basis on the iPhone will not be downloaded here. And the plus is that, it is the most affordable Apple device with access to Apple Intelligence. So let’s enjoy what it is. We can upgrade in two … years time. ❤

I’ve got the mini 7 (only had it a week), but I absolutely love it. It’s the perfect size for me and I find myself taking it everywhere.
I went for the 256 and got the pencil pro too. Nothing but positives from me…the journaling is great. Fitted the paperlike today and it is outstanding.

You are the only reviewer that has gone far enough in their review to mention that Final Cut Pro runs on the new iPad mini. Thank you! Love it!!! Hope you get to 400k subs this year!

I can live with the display but the chunky bezels make it look old fashioned in this day and age.
