I sure like what Matt Risinger has to say about housewrap

I have been wanting to have a conversation with Matt Risinger about some of the common questions I receive about our methods during the build of our insulated buildings. It was so awesome to snag him and pick his brain. He had no idea what I was actually going to ask him, and this is unedited, so enjoy. I'd love to have a discussion down below if there are any questions or comments. Remember, this is to hopefully learn and get better, not to judge or saw one person is wrong or not...so lets have a good discussion.

If you don't know who Matt is and you are into building, and more importantly the science behind it...go over and subscribe to his channel. He does some awesome stuff and does his best to share.

Matt knows his stuff (and not just because he is a Texan 😁). I’m really glad you two meet. Both super quality oriented builders.

I think I may have mentioned this once before, but seems appropriate here as well. One of the things my builder did on my steel clad building was sheet the roof with OSB before putting on the steel. He said he liked to do this (asked my permission first since it was an added cost) on all buildings with a steel ceiling as it pretty much eliminated any condensation from forming on the underside of the steel roof and dripping down on the insulation and steel ceiling. We both agreed that since I was having him put a vapor barrier on top of the ceiling (like Kyle does) below the blown insulation it probably wouldn't have been an issue, but I'm fine with the belt and suspenders approach to this when it comes to condensation.

Matt Risinger is a master of analogies! Thanks for the light bulb moment relating coolers and attics.

I fully agree with you both, why wrap something that's in a free space being vented by the soffit. I personally think that if it was wrapped there could be a chance that you'd be add a material that could in fact harbor the tendency to grab moisture from the vented air. We build our residential timber frames the same here in the UK Kyle keep up the great content love the builds 👍

I can't believe Matt and Kyle just spoke about post frame together! I am in the middle of a post frame home build on a basement and am using as much knowledge that I've gained from both of these 2 to do so. I'm hoping my steel lasts 500 years!

Not a builder at all but I've been following both you guys for a while now so it's cool to see the two of you together. You guys should do a post frame efficient house project. Love your videos.

Wow, the timing on this could not have been better! I'm building a "she-shed" for my girlfriend and it'll be heated, insulated and house wrapped. I've just run out of Tyvek after wrapping the walls but didn't have enough wrap for the gable ends. I was about to head out to by another 100 foot roll of Tyvek so I could wrap the last 10 foot gable but now I'm going to pass on that step and start on the siding. Thanks Kyle!
