the wrx is one of the only sports car that actually gets slower over the years.

There was a time when the WRX was a hero performance car that would embarrass V8's. This version wouldn't beat a Camry. What has happened to it?

Thanks for this. This is the first vid on this model that did more than mention the CVT. Nice to see some numbers from it!

These things were supposed to be V8 killers in the 90s. The V8’s still keep getting quicker and more powerful while these haven’t budged .

I know the CVT faking gears totally defeats the purpose of a CVT but it's pretty impressive.

This is the video I have been waiting for. Thanks!

Based on how the rev needle moves during upshifts, it looks like the CVT has really been programmed to take serious the Subaru Performance Transmission name. The downshift kickdown has a big delay.

So to sum it up, there is no performance in the “SPT” Subaru desperately needs a DCT option, 30 more hp, and Brembos if it wants to be competitive in this market.

So glad I didn't decide to wait to upgrade my MY16 WRX for this and instead purchased a GR Yaris.

7.48s 0-100 time for a 2.4t car (with CVT) is just not acceptable..

I don’t think anyone in this comment section even realised these cars aren’t even broken into yet… the cvt had about 650km in it only… to have a concrete test result, the car should be well past 2000km or even 5000km (fully broken into) to get an accurate result.

As a Subaru enthusiast this was painful to watch. Great review and production. But man that wrx is slow. Definately won't stand a chance against the new civic type r even. To think 10-15 years ago if you would have said the civic would be a good competitor against the wrx/sti you would have been laughed at. Well with Subaru not even coming out with an STI its clear that they couldn't give two fucks about the subaru enthusiasts anymore. What a shame. Was once such a legendary name.

Reason Why 2014 model holds value so well, I regretted selling my 14 WRX 3 weeks ago after watching the performance of this generation.
Lol

Rear end looks like a civic. Huge fan of the WRX name and the front end looks fantastic in my opinion.

Wow so apart form it being ugly; the auto is slower to 100kms than the outgoing model? Well done Subaru?

I remember the 1st gen WRX and 200SX did 0-100 in about 7 secs, the last XR6 was about 6.9 sec to 100. All 3 are faster than the auto WRX.

Actually looks alright. Way too slow compared to the hot hatches, sadly

What a disappointment, WRX used to be one of the best performance cars. Now it'll will struggle to fight off an entry level hot hatch.

This video demonstrates why CVT's are rubbish, they should only be in cheap scooters! Dual clutch or torque converter auto's are the way to go. CVT's just seems like a cost saving option that the manufacturers charges extra for. 🙃🙃
