I'm horrified by what goes on in America. I've never seen that level of frenzied delusion even in Moslem countries I've visited.

I grew up believing that, and my parents still believe it, it was incredibly traumatic and my pastor said it was Islam that would lead the persecution. I believed this until I went to Afghanistan when I was in the Marines, and everything I believed about Muslims was completely wrong. The afghan people were some of the kindest and greatest people I’ve ever interacted with.

So far, after what feels like 25 episodes, this one has to be my favourite. It never ceases to amaze me at how desperately certain types of Christians want to be persecuted. It's almost become part of their identity, especially the way that when failing to witness, they take refuge in the knowledge that it was foretold that they would be mocked and fail. It reminds me of Thecla and Paul, it reminds me of the masochistic torture fantasies by Ignatius of Antioch, it reminds me of the Acts of the Martyrs and so much more. And then, it inevitably reminds me of the "anarcho-syndicalist commune" peasants' scene in Python's Quest for the Holy Grail. Help, help, indeed.

I was raised southern Baptist and this was HAMMERED into our heads. You don’t realize until you’re out how much of a mechanism of control it is. If you’re brainwashed into thinking any day, any minute Christ could come back and wreak vengeance, you’re in a constant state of fear, “Am I devout enough? Is that weird thought I had going to send me to hell?” It puts people in a state of hyper vigilance, and is frankly evil.

That book had traumatized and hurt people . I have been through anxiety, trauma and nightmares. Dan is so cool for debunking this nonsense. Dan can you debunk time going fast people are saying that Jesus is coming back cause time is going fast this is terrifying alot of people.

It's extremely sobering to hear you talk about the evangelical movement. I grew up with all of that trauma, and it absolutely sits with me today. There's still an existential dread that looms over me despite being an atheist now. Even though I'm an atheist now, the anxiety remains.

I can't even explain why but I felt genuine relief hearing you contextualize those "prophecies". Maybe there's a part of me that's terrified I'm wrong, and that it's all true. We can't be sure of much in life. Regardless, your videos do a lot of good for me. Wish I'd have known any of this growing up; the lifelong grief it'd have spares me.

I want to thank you, not so much for explaining why this is absurd, but for helping to make the reasons so clear. Even when I was active in evangelical churches I was always bothered by this, but it was only more recently that I began to understand why it's so toxic and you explain it better than anyone.

I was raised to think this way, and I know many evangelicals that are still stuck in premil torment.

"The Book of Revelation is not about dismantling the structures of power that facilitate these abuses. It's just about trading places with the people that are using the systems of power to abuse". Right. The entire bible advocates autocratic power structures and persecution of out groups, other than a few stray comments attributed to Jesus.
