Is Hashimoto's a Genetic Condition?

Hashimoto's thyroiditis definitely has a genetic component but probably not how you are thinking. While Hashimoto's is associated with certain genes just because you have those genes doesn't mean you will get the disease. Hashimoto's is expressed when you have a combination of the underlying genes and a triggering event that cause them to manifest. The good news is that you can use this information to your advantage by avoiding those things which trigger Hashimoto's. Things like high iodine exposure, environmental toxins (EDCs), heavy metals, radiation exposure, and infections like EBV. Even if you already have the disease you can try and treat or remove these offending agents to improve your disease outcome.

My grandmother had Graves disease and had to have her thyroid removed when she was young. But also I grew up about three miles from the last uranium enrichment plant, which also proceeded some much worst things that got into our well water when I was young. Rode horses around the plant before they put all the fence up. Also, I had had a few x-rays of my head and neck from the time I was 5-22. Add to that I used to work in security screening at a airport with a really old x-ray machine. (While never came back anything, but wonder if added to all the other exposure that was maybe added to everything else?)

Doctor before I had the covid vaccine I never missed a day of work (work as a teacher). Now I am diagnosed with an underactive thryoid last Monday. I had covid in May and was hospitalized because I fainted and was dizzy. Do you think there is a connection between the vaccine and having an underactive thyroid I'm now on the AIP to see if it helps. Thank you so much!

I've been renting my house for 8 years and just found out that the radiator plumbing is linked to the mains water tank.

I was exposed to mercury as a child. My dad is a scientist and I found his mercury and was fascinated by how heavy it was. I played with it by watching it roll around in balls in my hands. I thought it was beautiful.
