As a Swede, living not far from the HQ of Volvo Cars in Gothenburg, I have to say that this review was very fair, honest and informative. Tesla is better in some areas, Volvo in others, as it should be. Competition between brands hopefully gives the consumers better and better cars. Two thumbs up!

Seems like a fair review. I just ordered a XC40 Recharge for delivery in April next year when my current 2021 Passat GTE lease ends. I went for the single motor extended range option as I had a budget to stick too. The 4wd would have been nice here in Sweden in the wintertime but I dont need the crazy acceleration. I did look at a Tesla Y LR but they are a bit too expensive and I dont really like the stripped out interiors., especially not having a speedo infront of the driver.

Love the format of your review. Just bought a used 2023 C40 for $28K (USA). Love it: well sorted, comfy, sporty, excellent build & safety + no Elon. Everything works well together. Great daily driver.

Refreshingly different from most car reviews. You referred to the upcoming EX40. Perhaps you meant the EX30, which will be Volvo's smallest EV. That will be a very important addition to Volvo's EV lineup, not just for the money it will bring in, but equally for the many new owners who will become hooked on Volvos.

Great, honest review. I have a 2023 MY but still very interested in other EVs. This is much more of a conventional vehicle as opposed to a Tesla. Volvo is definitely a brand I would consider when I come to replace the model Y. Again, a great review. Thanks from WA.

Just an FYI, in the trunk, the grocery divider has a latch at the end that came out that wasn't locked, that's why the panel came out in his hands (8:40) but more importantly, that's why when it was placed in the notch it was wobbly. On our XC40, you can literally hang 30lb bags from the divider and use it to keep cat litter split from groceries. The divider also can fold on top of itself to make almost all of the trunk the full depth with the under-floor, the panel is quite heavy to be so strong.

that was a really good review, and it was great to see a deep comparison to the Model Y - who to be fair, are leading the market with sales. I found the review very as comprehensive as necessary, balanced, and clearly you were not playing favorites. Great review, keep them coming. I have a GV60 performance and have never driving a model Y, so it would be really cool to see a good head to head comparison.

We have had a Model Y Performance and an XC40 for the last 2.5 years. I like the Tesla better; my wife likes the XC40 better. We are considering the EX30 when the lease runs up on the Volvo. The assessment was very good, and I agree with most everything. The range in the XC40 is our biggest issue, so all our road trips are done in the Tesla because of the range and the really poor state of CCS charging in the US.

Nice review/comparison, thank you! I was on the verge of going for a Model 3, but cannot find insurance at an affordable rate, in fact most insurer sources declined to insure for a Tesla. Being an ICE Volvo owner already I have found a preloved XC40 Recharge at an affordable price and hoping to do a deal on it soon.

I'm down to the last few on my list for my next car and Volvo are still scoring strong. Peugeot is still there and I'm still trying to figure out exactly what VW are offering, especially as I live in Spain (Seat/Cupra). Tesla is popular but I'm afraid the Musk quotient is too high and has to be dismissed.
