Completely agree and this is why I’m interested to see how/if developers take advantage of the PS5’s SSD. By ‘take advantage’ I mean in other ways apart from loading from menu to game as my SSD in my PC can pretty much do that already.

I’ve always said the PS5 is more of a next gen CONSOLE, whereas Xbox is just using the old raw power approach and tech/features that gaming PC’s can achieve.

Not just SSD, even the controller with its Haptic feedback has upgraded. Sony also put some love into audio with the Tempest engine. Series X will have Dolby Atmos which has max of 128 channels of audio, where the PS5 can process over a thousand channels. As stated by Sony there is dedicated hardware just for audio that is equivalent to the GPU in the current PS4. It's going to be an amazing machine.

The ps5 total power, 10, 23 tfops GPU, 1.8 Tflops 3D audio System can be used to boost the cpu, the SSD push over 5.5 Tflops of power, because the PS5 SSD can render poligons according to PS5 fans, and the controller must have a PS4 Pro Processing power. So That's the true reason the PS5 is the true next gen, is the ultimate system, even if I have a much better pc this one can`t never, ever match PS5 power. That tech demo is only possible on PS5, there is no machine in the entire world that can run that tech demo. Sony Wins ever.

I think people also forget that there is a completely separate chip for sound processing, which is as powerful as all 8 cores of the PS4 cpu. It can also be used for things other than sound processing.

PS5 for me 100% I will bank on that SSD I don't care about 2 flops no one is talking about that other then the sells guys. And lets be honest PlayStation has the games xbox showed me only 1 game that looked good medium <- not correct I think but yeah that looked good but PS5 will have sequels to games I want to play many of them and most likely new ip exclusives as well I am excited and hyped for PS5 and I will be itching and waiting for that FF7re part 2 and God of War 2 just to name a few.

Very good arguments and I agree 100% with your statement. But I would like to add something very simple and very important that a lot of people forget about Microsoft.
NO FIRST PARTY GAMES EXCLUSIVE FOR XBOX SERIE X FOR 2 YEARS !
A game can not be realy next gen If you have to make it run on older gen.
And third party studios will never commit at the begining to next gen exclusives beacause of huge number of old gen consoles in the market.
What supprise me is that this kind of descison should have been made by Sony with there 110 millions of PS4 all ready sold.
Last thing if you hear from anyone that a cross gen game use the full potential of the next gen IT IS A LIE !

Even before Sony revealed the ps5 specs all we hear is great things from devs saying how great it is. Devs coming out on their own to praise it. I don’t think I’ve heard any devs praise series x. Series x, the Ultra settings machine for the Xbox ‘family’ of systems

EVERYONE PLEASE READ THIS.

I apologise if you’ve already read this as I’ve posted it a lot this is for anyone who hasn’t already seen it.

I think the best looking games next generation will be 1080p on Xbox series S and 1440p and PS5 and Xbox Series X and may possibly look better on the PS5.

However, that’s 1080p or 1440p, upscaled to 4K using DLSS equivalent tech, with ray tracing applied and using that phenomenal SSD, to stream in 8K textures, with large amounts of particle effects; all at a steady 30FPS.

Plus most games will also have a 60FPS mode; where developers will turn off ray-tracing (because ray-tracing is very taxing), too increase frame rates and then run the game at 4K 60FPS.

That way they offer gamers the best of both worlds; Realistic lighting for those that care about graphics and a frame rate boost for those that care about performance.

However the reason I say on PS5 is because I’m not sure yet, if the Xbox series X SSD is fast enough to stream 8K textures and large amounts of particle effects, not without significant performance issues, such as pop-in, screen tearing etc. (however I could be wrong).

Where I think these consoles will differ is:

I think the Xbox series X will have better ray tracing and reach higher frame rates, because it has more Compute Units and a more powerful GPU, (but only on first and second party exclusives). However, with ray-tracing the difference may not be as big as some people think. That’s because, although the Xbox series X can calculate more rays at once, the faster clock speeds on the PS5 GPU, may allow for rays, to bounce off more surfaces, within the same timescale. (we will just have to wait and see)

I think the PS5 will have better texture detail and more particle effects because of its much faster SSD, (but again only on first and second party exclusives). Although I could be wrong and the Xbox series X may also be able to stream 8K textures, without the aforementioned problems. There is no denying that the PS5 will have a significant texture and partial effect advantage, because the SSD difference is so substantial.

Now with multi-plat developers, I very much doubt we will see any difference at all. I believe they will simply aim for the lowest common denominator, to ensure their games run identically on both machines; and if we do see games running better on one system over the other, it won’t be all one sided; some games will run better on Xbox series X and some games will run better on PS5 (similar to this generation between the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro). But even then we will struggle to see any difference without analysis from teams like Digital Foundry.

IMHO this makes next generation exciting for anybody interested, in the technology side of the industry and people need to stop saying that all multi-plats will look significantly better on the Xbox Series X, BECAUSE THEY WON’T.
