That’s a sign of a secure person.
An insecure person would be at one extreme or another.

Jocko man you probably might never read this but I have to say thank you. I recently went through some things that I normally would react a certain way to but I’ve been listening to your podcasts for awhile now and it’s like I can step out side of (said) problem and analyze a situation more appropriately and I feel like it’s helped me in how I deal with certain things like this one issue more effectively. Guess what I’m trying to say is your podcasts has helped me make better decisions, analyze things better. I feel like there’s a lot of Gurus and self help people out there and people screaming at the top of there lungs and that’s great as they have there place in the world too but, listening to you has helped me in my day to day life as your not yelling and screaming your talking to motivate your audience which for myself I’m seeing can be even more effective as your approach I feel like appeals more to a persons logical mind versus feelings which is what you get with motivational speeches or podcasts. I thought I knew what discipline was but listening to you and Echo Charles, I am learning to apply a lot of you guys advice to my life and being more disciplined in the areas that I need to become a better Human.Sorry for such a long post but to you and Echo I just have to say thank you. My life is really spiraling out of control but for once I am starting to feel like I can grab the wheel and take control of the veichle which is me.Keep up the great work guys, I started listening to you guys on YouTube and now I’m signing up to the website.Godbless you both and again thank you for all you guys do.

100% agree. If you want to take it a step further, you utilize his experience to your advantage, surprise and go for the win.

You have absolutely got the best attitude I think I’ve ever heard. I’ve always tried to keep an open mind and completely be humble. My friends asked me why I don’t compete anymore. I have nothing to prove I always end by saying I wouldn’t even fight a 13 year older now I don’t want to take a chance on getting hurt that’s not to say I still don’t have confidence, but it 51 years old I’ve grown by being humble. With nothing to prove, I love your attitude.

I never thought of that as being humble. That's something I always do, no matter how good you are at something understand you ain't really shit. Someone is always better and even if that ain't true there is always more potential.

So remain a student forever.

Something a older guy told me when i was a kid racing rc cars “never take advice from people eating YOUR dust, take advice from people who’s dust you’re eating” it has stuck with me the last 25 years.

Being humble isn't about being relentlessly self denigrating. It's about knowing your actual place in the world. If you're the worlds greatest at something, it's OK to tell people "Hey. I'm literally the world's greatest at this thing." That's STILL being humble.

But most of the time you don't know if you are or not. Or you definitely know you're not. And you act from there.

Twice this week I’ve had color belts tell me I had them scared for a second and give me tips for finishing the next time. It’s not a tap but I’ll take it

Being honest about self assessment and viewing that assessment as a temporary check-in leaves you open for improvement. The numbers are constantly changing, you just have to focus on the ones you want to go up and then assess again.

That is the exact attitude I had with martial arts. I loved training with high end guys. The only difference is I played safe and defensive so I could see how they would beat my defences.
