How do we find fulfillment in a world that's constantly changing? Raymond Tang struggled with this question until he came across the ancient Chinese philosophy of the Tao Te Ching. In it, he found a passage comparing goodness to water, an idea he's now applying to his everyday life. In this charming talk, he shares three lessons he's learned so far from the "philosophy of water." "What would water do?" Tang asks. "This simple and powerful question ... has changed my life for the better."

“Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.” ~ Bruce Lee

I feel like I often put very high expectations on myself but I've realised that you have to humble yourself and start small to get something big.

A TED talk that is not total garbage!? That is unseen these days.

Thumbs up for the Tao Te Ching. That's a wonderful book.

I guess, the situation when you feel trapped is usually caused by absence of aim, absence of the path to go. Water always know where to flow. Should definitely read the book. Tang, thank you! Nice speech :)

All these principle apply to keanu reeves very briefly, humble, isn't selfish, always credits the contribution of others, shares his experience as other people share theirs. that man is purity, and my inspiration.

One quote I read about humility that adds to this is. “Stop making everything about yourself”. I like it because it applies to anxiety and pride. “I am great” and “I’m useless” both addressed in this quote. Both quotes are counterproductive to peace because the focus is on the self.

The supreme good is like water,

which nourishes all things without trying to.
It is content with the low places that people disdain.
It greatly benefits The Ten Thousand Things, without going against them.

In dwelling, it stays grounded.
In being, it flows to depths.
In expression, it is honest.
In confrontation, it stays gentle.
In governance it balances.
In action, it aligns to timing.

It is content with its nature,
and therefore cannot be faulted.

It's incredible how well he controls himself through that initial wave of emotion

I recently discovered Tai Chi, and through this practice first began to understand Taoism on a practical level. It's been changing my life for the better, too, in surprising ways. Well spoken, Mr. Tang, and good luck in the future.

THANK YOU! I too have learned so much from his poems. "Muddy waters lie still become clear." 6 words that say so much.

I like this idea cuz I stopped leaving the house. There isn't much out there for me; I'm either disgusted or just bored of engaging with other people. I kept going out and doing social things, only to come home disappointed. Just about everything has lost its meaning for me, and having people criticize my reclusiveness makes me feel bad about myself. I don't see the problem with it, especially if I'm not bothering anyone, and of course I have to go out and engage the world for food and supplies. My separation isn't fueled by a phobia.

I'm going to tell people, "Hey, I'm content with my nature, so I can't be faulted!" I'll see how that goes over! Great talk...and yes of course I'm engaging with people on YouTube, but out of the population of the world, I'm listening to a select INTELLIGENT few. My life doesn't revolve around advancing a career so I can buy the latest gadget or iPhone, or watching the Super Bowl. I'm composing this on an iPad that's 10 yrs old and works just fine.
