Today, I am gonna talk about sodium and how it affects chronic kidney disease patients and some other important things related to sodium and chronic kidney disease CKD.

Since sodium (or "salt") is regulated through diet and kidney excretion, it's important to understand where we get salt in our diet, what it does in our bodies and why that matters for kidney health.
Sodium is one of the two electrolytes found in salt. Sodium plays an important role in preserving kidney function, fighting chronic kidney disease and chronic kidney failure. So, therefore no sodium is not better than low sodium.

The sodium found naturally in foods is plenty to maintain healthy levels in our body. However, we add salt while we cook, while we eat, and it is added to many processed foods. This can lead to eating too much salt. Having too much salt in your food can lead to high blood pressure, which is the second leading cause of kidney disease. But that doesn’t mean that you should totally cut off the sodium from your diet instead try to have a low sodium diet.

Oftentimes as people are working on improving their diet so that they can work towards kidney health they think if I totally cut off the sodium from my diet then that would be better but as I have mentioned above that Sodium plays an important role in preserving the kidney function, fighting the chronic kidney disease and chronic kidney failure. So, therefore no sodium is not better than low sodium.

A good target for sodium is 1500-2300mg per day. Remember-- going too LOW on sodium causes problems too, so you NEED some sodium.

Processed foods and restaurant meals are the top culprits. Choosing a meal plan based in whole foods and preparing food at home gives you the best control over sodium in your diet.

Sea salt is lower in sodium than table salt and If I use sea salt then that’s the best alternative for a low sodium diet plan. That is also a big myth about sodium as they both have the same amount of sodium.

Kelp seasoning comes with a little shaker kind of like a salt shaker and it has a lot of iron, magnesium, and iodine in it and only about 100 milligrams of sodium per teaspoon comparative to salt which is upwards of 2400. So, kelp seasoning is a very good product to add to your low sodium diet plan.
