'I'm appalled': LBC callers react to Huw Edwards being spared jail

Huw Edwards has avoided jail despite admitting paying a paedophile as much as £1,500 for child abuse images.

Edwards, 63, was given six months suspended for two years, after admitting three charges of "making" indecent photographs after being sent the images by convicted paedophile Alex Williams over WhatsApp.

The former senior BBC newsreader will also have to attend 25 sessions of a sex offender programme and will be required to sign the sex offenders' register for seven years. He will also have to pay £3,128 in costs and a victim surcharge.

A series of callers tell Nick Ferrari about their disappointment that Edwards did not receive a harsher sentence.

It is absolutely unbelievable, a fix, who was the Magistrate that gave him this ridiculous sentence. Personally, if I was a relation of this poor kid, Mr. Edwards would get justice We have gone mad in this Country, jailing angry people for expressing their thoughts on Facebook and letting this pervert walk free.

I am sickened by this sentence and every excuse he has used under the sun to try and explain why he acted how he did.
What makes me sick is one that he didn't go to jail and two that he said his childhood was to blame for the way he has acted, many many many people have horrific childhoods, myself included, but I would never dream of hurting another person or causing suffering for another human being.
What message does this send, it tells every like minded individual that you can get away with it, that's what it does!
Don't even get me started on the effect of all this on the children who will grow up knowing that society classes the damage if property as more important than them and the abuse they have suffered at the hands of people like him!

Why are you trying to play down what he did? SA is torture. Go look at a prison and ask how many of them were abused as a kid. The number is extremely high! Its a lifetime of tortue.
