Arguing institutional racism doesn't exist because cultural sensitivities have progressed is like saying cancer doesn't exist because medicine has improved. Lazy thinking at best.

“I’m not black and institutional racism hasn’t affected me so it doesn’t exist” LBC caller.

In summary: "If it doesn't affect me, it doesn't exist".

When you’ve lived your entire life, not realizing the privilege you were born with, it is near impossible to see through the eyes of someone who didn’t

Sad how so many people like the caller simply refuse to observe reality and acknowledge facts.

“Who? Who says they can’t succeed?” This guy’s understanding of institutional racism is someone literally walking up to minorities and telling them they can’t succeed. The concept of statistical data is a mystery to him

The caller is calm, smug and a muppet all at the same time

If he's "absolute" about something that's so self-evident, then he's not living in reality.

it’ll never be an institutional issue to the “unaffected group”.

Shout out from Chicago our country is trying to go back to 1776 when the white male ruled supreme still does and won't be happy until the constitution is returned to its original intent, overturning abortion is just the beginning to that end.

So many of the hard of thinking think "I have never seen it, so it does not exists" and then use confirmation bias to reinforce their opinions.

What a ridiculous caller, he has no empathy for others, no knowledge or comprehension of what he is talking about.

The old Meritocracy is always pure/the cream always rises to the top argument. This guy needs to talk to more black and asian police officers for a start.

I think it can be hard to see a problem if it doesn't affect you.

I am way above average height and muscle mass. This can be a big advantage as a man and many guys would want to be as big as me and generally it is a benefit. However, I haven't been able to go to a shop to get shoes and clothes since i was 12. I was put in some really bad situations when I was younger because police or women assumed I was 27ish and I was 10, 11, 12 or 13.

If you don't walk in someone's shoes you have no idea the obstacles they face. We all have our own battles, but understanding can really help people.

Institutional racism describes how various systems result in racially unequal outcomes. Denying that the system is leading to these outcomes and blaming things on differences between races is just plain old racism.

"What about that one guy out of 1000 who made it?"

Sangita's well researched, knowledgeable and analytical style is compelling. Completely evidence based, she breaks down the arguments with speed, and makes them easily understandable. Difficult to pull off.

Attempting to downplay racism is disgusting. The caller has clearly never suffered institutional racism.
