I briefly dated someone who mocked me for giving money to the homeless and food to a food bank. She said anyone who wasn’t at least middle class was a loser who didn’t deserve help. I thought she was cruel but it turns out she was just a Tory.

I understand Shelagh’s POV but at the same time I have more sympathy for the caller.
Anyone who votes tory KNOWS what those stinking pigs stand for, and even if they don’t entirely agree with the tory mindset, they KNOW that by voting for the tories they are implicitly endorsing that view.
It’s a simple case of “If you don’t oppose us, you’re considered with us, so we’ll take your vote anyway”.

I would imagine it would be difficult to marry anyone with opposite values to you. Its not about politics, its about values, honesty, integrity, compassion, basic human decency, regardless of who you vote for.

It's not being a conservative that makes you disgusting, it's being a Conservative that makes you disgusting.
I've literally stopped talking to friends who turned Conservative. They didn't need to tell me they'd changed voting habits, it was abundantly clear that they'd gone down a road of negativity, hatred, anger, and so on - the things that seem to go hand in hand with the Conservatives.
