There are 5 recognized dwarf planets, Pluto just happened to be thought as a planet for long enough.

BTW the planets between Jupiter and Mars is the asteroid belt ceres is the biggest planet in the asteroid belt and smallest dwarf planet

Also, in a lucky part sometime in between years, neptune and pluto get so close to eachother that neptunes orbit actually gets ahold of it for a bit and the sun then the sun gets pluto to orbit it again. So, technically pluto also orbits neptune so it also cant be a planet.

The three rules are more in depth:

1. All planets must orbit *a star*, not necessarily only the sun.
2. Planets must have enough gravity to make them round, giving them that spherical shape.
3. Kind of like what he said, planets have to be able to clear their surroundings, and Pluto fails to do this because of its scarcity in mass.
