Fun fact, from plutos discovery in 1930 to having its planet status removed, pluto completed 1 third of a single orbit.

"your MOM didn't think i was too small" - pluto

This is a far better explanation than "Pluto is too small to be a planet, axe it."

Instead of thinking that Pluto was demoted from being a planet think of it this way... it was promoted to being the King of the Dwarfs.

I love how when the whole 'not considering Pluto a planet' really took off and it was said in schools, news etc...many people got pissed off as If we have some stake on it being a planet or we got cheated for having used some space in our memory for it.

I recall some people in my area saying it's still a planet for them no matter what lol

I took it personally when they said Pluto isn't a planet any more 😂

I find it so fitting that we named it Pluto, after in the Roman god of death who was banished from Olympus.

Astrobiologist here: the new category of planetary objects was long due, as we also started finding objects in other systems. This category just allowed us to separate stuff more easily. If we were to let Pluto be in that category, we would have to include a bunch more objects that behave in dynamic ways.
To be a dwarf planet is fine! It does not demerit Pluto of being studied or imagined.

"that's where it stands right now" love it. science is always changing as more information is revealed.

I had to do a dissertation about this. Here's the tl;dr
1) 20% of Pluto's orbit lays within Neptune's orbit
2) Neptune has a 28 degree tilt
3) There is STRONG evidence to suggest a planet collided with Neptune and Pluto was one of the moons from said planet.
4) Neptune's clouds have been thinning out since we realized there were clouds there in 1989.
5) The Kuiper Belt exists between Neptune and Pluto suggests that could be the remnants of the planet that hit Neptune.

There's somehow a linguistic problem:

– Every giant star is also a star.
– Every dwarf star is also a star.
– Every giant planet is also a planet (or exoplanet).

But a dwarf planet – is never ever a planet.

They just tightened up the definition of a planet over time, and pluto didn't meet the requirements.

Years of “Pluto is a planet!” And now I finally understand why it isn’t. Thank you Neil.

After Dr. Tyson's latest statement, Pluto woke up and declared it feels like a planet, thus identifies as a planet and must in fact be a planet

Understand scientific terms but Pluto always be a planet 🥶💙

It's so stupid people can't accept it isn't a planet, most of them barely have any understanding of space
