I really prefer having to wait in an elevator, rather than having to sit through a loading screen. The immersion doesn’t break, this way! I personally just try to spin around, which can be a surprisingly difficult task.

I mostly walk around, play with the poltergust and the lights. As somone who's played the first game way too many times it's strange yet very satisfying that there's a elevator instead of running up and down the stairs.

I played through the whole game co op with my brother and every single time we went in the elevator we had a plunger fight, just shooting plungers non-stop in every direction.
